Look for the beauty in imperfection

I have written a blog post about being your own best friend and stopping ruminating after listening to one of the interviews I heard from “Shift It“, a free online interview series hosted by Kate Crow.

Today, I just listened to another interview, by Arielle Ford. She is a love and relationship expert. She has written ten books, and one of her famous and bestselling books is The Soulmate Secret: Manifest the love of your life with the Law of Attraction. Her latest book is Turn your mate into your Soulmate, and she is sharing the first five chapters for free. At first, I did not plan to sign up to this offer, but after listening to her interview, I think I am just going to check out what the book is talking about, and I might get some inspirations and good tips from her.

In the interview, Arielle Ford mentioned that she was a perfectionist. She started to realize and decided to make a change when she read about Wabi Sabi on a magazine’s headline. She describes it as looking for the beauty in imperfection. She started to think about the Wabi Sabi solution whenever she faced any imperfections. She started to go through her life and look in the beauty of imperfection. She starts with making up story, having fun with the imperfections and also realizing that there is no such thing as perfection. We can learn to shift from annoyed to enjoyed and also focus on what matters to us most.

She shared a short story from her book, Wabi Sabi Love, which is about the relationship between our mate. I agree with Arielle that no one else can drive us as crazy as our mate, though he does not do it on purpose, as this is the person who we live together every day, and we were brought up in different background and we do things differently. This book shared how we can use the Wabi Sabi solution to deal with the imperfection and annoyances. The story is about this couple who have married for many years. The man, Jerry has an addiction that he has to make Poppy Seed Bagel every morning. Because of his bad eye sight, he couldn’t clean the black seeds properly, so his wife, Diane has to help him to clean up everyday. It’s lots of work to do, and it’s everyday work. One day, Diane was not in a good mood and thought what if she doesn’t need to do this everyday. Then she started to cry, as she realized if she doesn’t need to do that, that means Jerry is not with her anymore. That would definitely make her feel sad. Since that day, she is happily doing the clean up task, as what  is more important to her is to be with her husband. I was touched after listening to this short story.

I agree that nothing else upset me more than not being able to be with my husband and children. So, I am grateful for being together with them now, and I should learn to look at the beauty of every imperfection and also turn the annoyance into enjoyment, though I am already doing this.

    • My wife and me do not look for the beauty among us for beauty never last and it is only for the beholder to see and appreciate it. What makes our love and relationship last and lead to a strong and happy marriage is the way we understand each other, the way we give due consideration after we fail or commit mistakes. We know that nobody among us is perfect. Therefore, we never expect everyone to perfect in any manner. Our, as you made mentioned, imperfection strengthens up and excites us to be with our natural being. We don't have to pretend that we are "perfect" for we are not.

      • In my opinion, beauty here does not mean the outlook, it's the inner beauty. I believe the love between you and your wife is the beauty in your relationship. I have read about your love story in ForumCoin, and I think it's really lovely. I do not believe in perfection and I am not a perfectionist either, I think it's good to just be ourselves and embrace each other.

Listening to this interview reminds me to find the beauty of my children as well. Sometimes what they do might upset me, but if we truly look into it, we might be able to find the beauty of why they are doing such things.

    • Sometimes seeing the imperfection in others comfort us.
At least we know that we should not set a high standard, since we are not going to meet the standard anyway.

    • There is no such thing as a perfect relationship because all of us are imperfect but we are trying to coped up with that imperfection to become a perfect person to someone else. All of us has our own rules to follow, principles that we stand for, and the interest that we mostly like and do. In terms of looking for a lifetime partner, prayers can really be a great help for everyone of us to find the perfect man for us inspite of our many imperfection. Let God do his work to find a so called significant other to find the right one that he intended for you alone and you can do that by means of prayer. A prayers that comes from the heart, asking for his guidance that through his loving grace you will soon be able to find the perfect one for you and miraculously many people find true love that binds them together through praying for a lifetime partner. I believe that if you will put your whole trust in God, believe in him, and offer everything to him, if its for your own goodness, nothing is impossible. Everything is possible to happened. One qoutes that really inspire me with its passage when it says "Don't wait for the right person to come along but be the right person to come into someone's life." True enough.

    • If there is anyone out here or out there who knows of a relationship that is perfect I would want to be the first person to know. There has never been a perfect relationship and I doubt of there will ever be because no one is. If we all were perfect then who would be there to do all the wrong things so that they can be corrected? Anyway a perfect relationship is one that has arguments, misconceptions, misunderstanding, and such like things. Because that is when you get to know the week points in your partner and vice versa. Then that way people can relate in such a way that no one disrespect th3 other because they know why they did what they did.

    • Nobody is perfect in this world. In my opinion it would be impossible for us to find a perfect match for us.

    • Yes, no body is perfect on earth except the holy prophets and their teachings and their characters written in the holy books. I believe in the prophets teaching and their personalities were the paragon of truth and role model for all human being on earth.

I think for us the role models must be the holy prophets in all walk of life because earthly people are not perfect due to greed and jealousy in hearts. Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.

It is only imperfection that complains of what is imperfect. The more perfect we are the more gentle and quiet we become towards the defects of others.

There would be no need for love if perfection were possible. Love arises from our imperfection, from our being different and always in need of the forgiveness, encouragement and that missing half of ourselves that we are searching for, as the Greek myth tells us, in order to complete ourselves.

Persuade thyself that imperfection and inconvenience are the natural lot of mortals, and there will be no room for discontent, neither for despair.
