Lip Tiny Newbie: Tonly Moly Orange Cha Cha

Have you ever seen anybody wearing a dark, sexy red lipstick and suddenly notice that the lipstick’s smeared around the teeth? That is one thing that I find really embarrassing so to avoid it, I just steer away from loud lip color like reds or bright pink!

I actually like seeing nicely painted red lips but with the fear of it getting on my teeth is always at the back of my head. However, after discovering and getting enough courage to try Korean lip tints, I think that will change the way I see deep pigments on my lips forever!

Tony Moly’s lip tint

One of my early cosmetic hauls from Roserosehop is Tony Moly’s lip tint. At the time I bought this, the Orange Cha Cha shade is the only one available. After looking for reviews around the internet and tips how to apply it, I thought I’d give it a go. The worst case that can happen is me wasting $3 for a bottle of lip tint if I end up not liking it, right?

It arrived and I was so excited (and scared) to try it out. Even after watching and reading tips and how-to videos, I was still unsure whether this product is for me. So I decided I’d use it first on a Saturday that all I have to do is go to the grocery and go home.

After opening, I noticed that unlike the usual lip gloss, the tint is very runny (watery even). The applicator is like a small sponge in the end and since I was so afraid I’d end up with a lot of color, I made sure to “squeeze out” as much color as I can! I dabbed the applicator at the center of my lips first and I immediately smelled a nice fruity, citrusy scent coming from the tint. I was so close to licking the tint, LOL!

As I dabbed the applicator, I noticed that the color is really deep and pigmented. I initially planned to make the gradient look but I knew early on it was hard for a newbie like me to pull off, LOL! So I decided to make a full coverage.

Applying the tint was really easy so long as you don’t get too much of the tint. I also noticed that it wasn’t too orangey. Maybe more of a red-orange shade. I also noticed that as it dried, my lip felt dry so it is a must to use a lip balm or moisturizing lipstick on top of it (not before).

What I like most about the tint is that it stays for longer – like a temporary lip tattoo. I noticed that if I applied it and just drink in between, it can last for up to 6 hours! However, as soon as I ate, that really diminished the color. There were still hints of the tint around my mouth, unlike the lipstick that will completely wear off but the “remnants” doesn’t look too nice either.

I actually find Tony Moly lip tint a nice “starter” tint for somebody like me. It allowed me to be a little bit confident to use something bold and loud in terms of lip color so it is a good change, definitely! And for the price, I think this tube will last me for a long time.

    • Sort of depends on how in your face you want your orange and what tones flatter you. Peripera has a bunch of orange tints in their lineup (e.g., Peripera's tint crayon in fruity orange), and one of Tony Moly's delight lip tints are orange (and happens to be my favorite color to boot), but these tend to be fairly toned down oranges.
3CE also has a bunch of super pigmented oranges, too (lip pigment in bright orange, lipsticks in cashmere orange, glass orange, etc) but they range all the way from a milky orange to a coral orange, so it sort of depends on what flatters you. I've yet to find something to beat my favorite, bobbi brown's atomic orange, though. I am kind of obssessed with the orange lip, ended up amassing quite a few although most are not AB.

A reddish-orange colour I really like is Holika Holika heartful moisture lipstick in OR210 (I think it's called juicy orange??). Similar to this colour but more moist and slightly less red is Revlon's tutti frutti, which somebody recommended already but I'm second-ing it really hard cause it's amazing.

3ce in #502 cream pool is also a gorgeous orange but it's slightly unconventional. It's a beautiful slightly nude orange that leans yellow, a close dupe for it would be the nyx macaron lippie in orange blossom but the nyx one has the shittiest pigmentation and texture ever. (Other 3ce orange lipsticks I haven't tried but may interest you: cashmere orange, come to me, celebrity, glass pumpkin)

A tint I would recommend is the Holika Holika pro:beauty pencil tint in OR201. It's a like a lip liner so it's definitely not what you had in mind when you asked for a tint... but I suck at getting watery tints right so I use this one instead. It's the exact same colour as the Holika heartful lipstick OR210.
