Let’s celebrate National Book Lovers Day

World Breastfeeding Week, which was held from 1 to 7 August, was just over. Now we are celebrating National Book Lovers Day which is on 9 August. It is a day to encourage all who love to read, to find a favorite reading place, a favorite book and read.

How can we celebrate?

Read a Book

Some adults, or even children, might be too busy with our daily life, work or studies, and have too much reasons or excuses for not being able to read a book. So, this is a day where we should just put down all other busy tasks, pick up a book that we like, find a comfortable place, perhaps have a cup of tea or a glass of juice, sit down and start reading.

Besides reading to ourselves, it is a good time to read a book or two to our children too. Children love listening to stories and reading to them will help to build their reading habits too, which I think many parents would love their children to read. Moreover, it is a very good bonding time between parent(s) and children.

Buy a Book

We might have been thinking of buying some books that we like to read, but they may be too costly. There are some book stores having sales to celebrate National Book Lovers Day, so we can take this opportunity to buy some books we like at a cheaper price.

Share a Book

Leonard Nimoy said “The more we share, the more we have“. We can also share a book with our friends, so more friends will enjoy the good books, and we will get to enjoy more too.

Give a Book

It is also a good time to give a book to a friend, to encourage him or her to read. Reading is a good habit, so we should try to encourage more people to read, especially read good books.

Donate a Book

This is also a time when we can show our love to the people in need. Donate a book to children who like to read but cannot afford to buy books, and I am sure the they will appreciate it so much.

Borrow a Book

A library is a place where we can find many good resources from, for free. This is a time where we can find a good local library where we can always borrow good books and read books from, so we do not need to spend too much money buying books, but still able to read good books.

Discuss a Book

We can talk about a book together with our friends, our partner or our children. It is especially good to discuss with the children, to know what they like about the book or story and understand them better too.

Learn how a book is made

Though we have always been reading books, we might not know how a book is made. It is good to take this opportunity to learn more about a book.

I found this video on YouTube and think it is good for us to learn how a book is made: How It’s Made Books

This is especially good to teach the children more about books.

Do you love reading books? What book are you reading now? How do you celebrate National Book Lovers Day? I wish I can dedicate at least 10 minutes a day to read a book, besides reading to my children.

Let’s spend some time to read a book.

      • I guess it's because we are all book lovers here, and we would just like to spread this around. :D

    • I can't tell you how many times I have heard people say their life would not be the same if they had never learned how to read. In Jewish and Christian scriptures, many verses incorporate the words “It is written”. I had never thought about until one day it dawned on me that I took my own reading and writing skills for granted. I began to view those 3 words in the scriptures differently. Hmmm? Even our Divine Creator saw a world where, if not all people, there would be enough people who could read and write, and spread the revelation of His Word. Amazing thought isn't it?

Now don't get off on an argument about my religion. Just think about it for a minute. A Divine Being taking literacy as a Given. Knowing that in this world, books would be readily available because people can write them (“It is written.”) and others would have the ability to read them! That's visionary thinking. It's something for all humans to celebrate! :)

      • Thank you for sharing that! It helps me to look at the three words differently too. Though I am not a Christian, I am always happy to learn what Bible has taught us.

Though it seems like almost everyone around me has the ability of reading, not many people like to read especially not study books. I think it is really a blessing for those who love to read and still read, especially good books. I am also grateful for having so many written good books around, so we can read them and learn or get inspired from them.

    • I love reading and i would say that it was my favorite pastime but mostly i read book or stories over the internet which im accessible to do. For me, reading a book is very beneficial for everyone not only you will learn something on it but it also a proven source of knowledge

    • Books are the blessing of God on earth because the first book was written by God and call Revelation given to the prophets for the betterment of human beings.

Books are more poisonous than a Scorpio, some books are to read again and again because they are full of wisdom as The Proverbs, book in the Bible.

How to celebrate Book Lovers Day
In order to truly appreciate Book Lovers Day, one must only find a story and read it. Maybe you wish to dive into the unknown with a good mystery, or see magic in a high fantasy setting, or be enthralled in a steamy romance.

The individual genre of your reading is not the big piece of this, just that you do read is. Maybe a visit to your local library is in order? After all public libraries existed even way back in the Middle Ages, but they didn’t really let many folks take books home. The librarians in those days chained books to shelves or desks in order to prevent theft of the carefully hand written tomes.

Many librarians will gladly help you find a title to read, giving a brief explanation on what it is about if they have read it, or giving it a little flip and reading about it quickly in the synopsis. But no matter your preference,

if you read it at home with a cup of tea, share a book meeting with friends or go to the library and make use of the wonderful pieces on those shelves, just enjoy your reading, revel in the book and find a way to read during Book Lovers Day!
