Lakawon Island – Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, Philippines, your summer destination

The term “Lakawon” means “to walk” from the Cebuano root word “lakaw”. Therefore, during low tide, its sand bar appears and you can literally walk a long distance of white sand beach from the main island.

Lakawon, also called Llacaon, is a 13-hectare, banana-shaped island off the coast of Cadiz in the northern portion of Negros Occidental, a province in the Negros Island Region of the Philippines. For the backpackers, you can take the public bus from the Bacolod North Bus Terminal to Cadiz City for 95php.  an estimated one and half of travel. Once there, take a tricycle to Barangay Cadiz Viejo and head on to the port. You will then need to transfer to a pump boat to finally reach Lakawon Island.

The island is considered as the Boracay of Negros Province because of its long stretch of white sand beach.

House Rules:

– Tawhai Floating Bar is under different management apart from Lakawon Island Resort.
– Everyone must sign a waiver prior on-board the floating bar. The management reserves the right to deny any guest for reasons related to safety.
– No outside food allowed.
– First come, first serve basis.

There were not many activities to do on the island except swimming and some related water activities like boating, snorkelling, and jet skiing . There were not many recreational facilities as well. The resort is great for unwinding and relaxation.

Lakawon island resort is newly developed island resort located on a banana-shaped island off the coast of Cadiz in Negros Occidental. It boasts a relaxing view, pristine water, and white sand beach. Apparently, it is a new must-see destination in the Philippines.

Contrary to what we know, technically the island is more of a sandbar. The white sand beach faces Negros while the rugged and undeveloped side faces the open sea. There’s a small fishing village on Lakawon.

    • There is one more Cadiz in Spain. Are both the same? The names of the places mentioned in the blog are having Spanish orientation. The banana shaped white sand beach I think a 'must-see-one' for a foreign traveler. Who are the resident of this Lakawon Island? Can I add it to my tourist destination?

    • I have heard that term lakawon from my friends and fellow educators. And they were talking about that place that it is one of the better if not the best tourist attractions in Negros Occidental. By the way, I live in the central part of Negros Occidental and by April 24 is the opening day of our week-long Pasalamat Festival.

I hope you would visit our place together with your family or friends and get lost in the street dancing revelry on the last day of the said festival.
