How does mushroom really look like? Did you eat one? How? On salad and in pizza? Mushrooms are foods that are disliked by some. Mushrooms are food that cannot boost your appetite the first time you see it. But, eventually, many people love to eat it in many different ways of cooking.
WHAT ARE MUSHROOMS?
It is not a plant neither an animal. Mushrooms are fungi, which is very different from other living things. It is completely a different form of life. They eat in a different way, unlike plants. Mushrooms take their own food from their surroundings. How can they do it? It’s simply by breaking down or decomposes dead materials like old woods or leaves into basic nutrients.
Observe your surroundings, when you see a rotting log it is usually soft, right? It’s because the fungi or the decomposer digested the hard part of it.
Mushrooms also reproduce differently without undergoing pollination or sexual contact with other fungi.
Mushrooms are where other fungus makes their spores that can grow into a new whole fungus.
HOW DO MUSHROOMS USUALLY LOOKED LIKE?
Almost all mushrooms looked like an umbrella or the shaped like one. Their stalk is woody and fleshy. On top of their stalk is a round and flat cap with thin gills-like underneath.
However, not all mushrooms are like that because some mushrooms are somewhat like ears. There are also mushrooms that grow underground and their shape is like balls. Some are plate-like and grow from the trunk of the trees.
ARE ALL MUSHROOMS CAN BE EATEN?
Some mushrooms are known and become an ingredient or food for humans. Unlike plants, mushrooms do not have many nutritional values but they are being eaten because of the unusual taste and texture of it. It has also an aroma that can make you want some more.
Some mushrooms are highly prized in the market. An example of it is the mushroom that usually grows in France which is called truffles. They grow underground and can be found by using dogs to sniff them out. It has a strong odor.
In North America, hunters favorite mushroom is the Morels. Morels are like small honeycombs on the stick.
In Asian countries, one of the known mushroom people are eating is shiitake mushroom. The portabellas are also common. It is juicy and big and is also called a mushroom steak.
Nevertheless, not all mushrooms are safe to eat. There are mushrooms that are poisonous and are dangerous to human health. Some mushrooms can be deadly. Have you heard of the amanita mushrooms? They are the famous poisonous mushroom.

A very informative post. It tells us a lot about mushrooms and their various kinds. I saw a lot of them in my village growing on some broken branches of trees.I knew nothing about them at that time. I dont remember whether I had a chance to eat them, however I remember that they were cooked by my mom just like we cook eggs.Nowadays I am trying to have some of them because I have got a recipe from one of my relatives.
So many wonderful things can said about mushrooms and the many varieties, followed by the two words “Be careful”. Some of them can be poisonous.
