I only heard of this series in by the way comments, and with a lack of watchable programs, decided to take a glance. I am about three quarters of the way though the first 1990 episode.
Firstly, it is dated.
If you watch old movies or television serials, you’ll find they creep along. The cameras linger on ever aspect, with those long and forever opening credits, and the slow pace of the plot. This first episode is one hour and fifty two minutes long. It could be one hour and nothing would be left out, no clue would be missed.
The characters are slightly overdrawn, as if everyone has a double digit I.Q. and needs certain things hammered into their heads six or seven times.
The show takes place in a small town in America. Apparently, most of the people spend their time committing adultery. Just about everyone has wife/girl friend One and are having affairs with other people’s wives or girl friends.
American drama always portray small towns as the capital of Adultery. The people seem to have nothing to do but have sex with people they don’t live with.
None of the characters are particularly good. Everyone of them has their dark corner, their secrets.
The show begins with finding the body of a dead High School student on a beach. The investigation begins and a chap from the F.B.I. shows up.
It appeared to be a Story Arc program, so one didn’t expect any resolution. However, suddenly, those last twenty minutes, all the pieces dropped into place, the murder was oddly resolved, and the show ended in a wacky manner, making me wonder if I would bother to watch episode Two.
There are eight episodes in the first season. The one I watched is called the ‘pilot’ . I understand the show has be resuscitated for modern audiences, so am unsure whether I should watch more of the original, or skip to the new version.
Or find something else to watch.
