It is just a sea shell

I have this sea shell that has got a pride of place in my showcase. It tells a story – a story packed with memories.

I picked this shell from the shores of CocoCay a small island in the Bahamas.

The travel bug bit me a long time ago and I had this dream of going on a cruise. I have visited several countries and when I opted for the US package holiday a cruise to the Bahamas was listed among the optionals. I grabbed the opportunity as going on one’s own would entail a lot of running around. It was worth it – every dollar spent. The journey from the Florida seaport – Cape Canaveral -to Nassau was smooth although I was later told it could have been rough what with unannounced hurricanes that this area was noted for. The night before our return to Florida I  was told was rough but I slept like a log and did not notice anything.

It was a luxury cruise they called it and for me indeed it was. It was my first cruise. The ship ‘Sovereign of the Seas’ was a 14 tiered wonder each tier having its own theme.

As we reached Nassau the ship anchored there and stayed there for 3 days. We were then taken to CocoCay Island an Island that is one of the smallest around – just 1 mile long and a quarter mile wide at its highest point. The sands here are spotlessly white which I had never seen before.

We spent hours here just strolling, relaxing and picking up shells. We even got together and went a little beyond the shore splashing water on ourselves. There were tears in my eyes that my  dream of going on a cruise in the pacific ocean came true.

I picked up this white shell a souvenir to remind me of this great cruise and it does so each time I look at it.
