It’s not how much you have

My niece and I were having a meaningful tete a  tete last night. She had come to wish me for my birthday. I only had a few friends over for a small tea party. She saw me in my elements happy and contented. I explained to her what makes me that way.

I told her there is never an end to one’s wants and wanting more will only make one miserable.

As per society standards I do not have many things but I have created my own norms and with this I move around with a spring in my step looking forward to the day without a whimper.

As long as we do not hurt others and take something that does not belong to us this world could be a one big happy place living life to the hilt with what we have.

It is not how much we have but what we make of what we have is the route to happiness. I am glad that I follow this rule and got to imbibe it in my system pretty early in my life.

Many a soul is disgruntled merely because they always look at what others have but pay little attention to what they have been endowed with.

This competitive spirit can mar one’s happiness. Competition is indeed healthy at appropriate times but not at the cost of one’s own happiness and peace.

The tea party had all the goodies I had prepared myself. My bread pudding turned out great and so also the sandwiches. My happiness lay in the fact that my friends relished whatever was on the table and that I could see as everything had disappeared.

We had a healthy conversation exchanging news and views – learning and sharing.

It is these little things that makes one’s day and I can vouch for that.

    • I'm glad you had fun!! Yes, a lot of people nowadays are in competition with how much money you have and how much that money can buy..it's sad!!

      • To get to this level of thinking it takes time but I am happy that I have arrived there.

    • Very well said. At times, looking at our positives is more important than other things.

      • I am so much into these concepts that there is never a moment that I do not appreciate those little things that come in my life giving me happiness.
