Insomnia: Have you experienced sleeplessness?

Studies show that all day couch potatoes or people with restricted lifestyle suffer from bouts of insomnia. This fact and other research have led professionals to conclude that exercise is an important fact in one’s everyday routine that can lead to sounder sleep at night.

Consequently, they can go to bed late since they are not tired. Likewise, people who take naps during the day usually find it hard to sleep at night and can lead to fatigue during the daytime, which can bring the desire to take a nap a cycle that might be hard for some people to break.

This is why sometimes we just simply cannot fall asleep, or we fall asleep and a couple of hours later we are wide awake, not rested, of course, just wide awake. Those who suffer from insomnia have asked this common question repeatedly. Why can they not sound sleep at night? Based on some research and studies performed by the experts, let us try to understand what is really insomnia and what causes it.

Insomnia is such a common condition affecting millions of people yet some are not aware of its serious consequences. It is commonly referred to as sleeplessness or lack of sleep. Insomnia can lead to anxiety, lack of concentration, depression, and even severe fatigue.

It is serious, although unlike other diseases, it does not kill. But only a sleep-deprived person knows how lovely and how terrible the state can be.

The cause of insomnia is really hard to identify. Researchers say that people with chronic health condition suffer from insomnia. The excessive use of alcohol is one major cause, too.

Diagnosing insomnia is just exhausting. When people don’t get a good night’s rest, they feel really punk the next day. Moreover, when the lack of restful sleep happens after night, it is time to find out what causes insomnia. Doctors are reluctant to prescribe sleep medications without knowing the cause for insomnia. There is always an underlying cause of it.

If the insomnia is diagnosed as primary insomnia, it is better to have a sleep therapy, for it is not caused by a physical disorder. In here, muscle relaxation techniques are being done. If it is secondary insomnia that is caused by a physical disorder, doctors will treat the physical problem, as insomnia will resolve itself.

Meanwhile, some physical disorders that can often cause insomnia are sleep apnea syndrome, restlessness leg syndrome, asthma, heartburn, cancer, and even arthritis.

Some tests that doctors might perform to the patient when he is diagnosing the cause of insomnia are polysomnography, actigraphy, or psychological testing.
