Innovations in the Kitichen

Every household will at some time have leftover food that many throw away. Wasting food is not something that gives one peace of mind. No matter how wealthy one is food needs to be given due respect. It is not just the money spent on that food but a lot labour would have gone into making those dishes.  All one needs is the will and the awareness that food is not to be wasted.

One does not need rocket science to  come up with recipes to use leftover food. Any leftover food can be put to good use provided the food has not turned rancid. Sometimes that which is prepared form leftover food tastes better. The famous cutlets were an innovation in days gone by probably to make good use of leftover food and today cutlets are made from fresh stuff.

Cutting leftover chapaties in strips and deep fried taste like chips which could be eaten with tomato ketch up

A dry vegetable dish could be used for making kachories by adding some more ingredients such as some raisins, coconut and chopped cashew nuts. Kachories are deep fried and should therefore taste great compared to the leftover vegetable dish. Kids do not normally like vegetables and this would be a good idea for them to have vegetables.

Uncooked food could be put in a liquidiser and turned into stock for making soups.

Adding that which binds to leftover food can be turned into countless dishes. Corn flour is one such that binds. It can bind so many left over dry diishes which could be rolled into balls and deep fried. This could be used to make vegetable ball curry.

Pizzas could easily use any type of dry leftover food.

A day may come when households would on purpose have leftover food to be converted into exotic dishes.

    • you have rightly said that food has got immense value. We should not waste food and throw it on the road. The leftover food can be made use of preparing a variety of dishes. This being the concept people are very much after the dishes prepared from leftover food.

Peop;le are accustomed to using the dishes made out of leftover food. They are enjoying the taste of it. It has become a big problem. Parents can not give such stuff regularly wasting the food. The fresh ones are not giving them the taste. We should tell them what is what openly.

This does not mean that all such stuff available in the restaurants are made of leftover food. They prepare and give it a right taste. Sometimes it is also possible that they prepare these dishes using leftover foods in the restaurant to get huge profit.

    • Totally agree with you, that every kitchen has leftover, some times because not all the food can be finished by the kids or family members. They might have a lot of excuse, they were full, they had no appertise. The cook or mummy is always the one whom clear all these.

If not, innovation is a must grab skill by then. I used to fry the left over white rice. This is the most common way I can think off to clear my overnight white rice.

Some of the mummies deep fry the white rice in small piece to make them crunchy as a snack food.

If there is meat left over in the soup, I will keep it and mix into my fried vegetables.

The rest, just go and see how's the mood during that time. I hope not to waste the food as there are so many refugee whom without food in Africa beside save some cost of food in my family.

    • Even I dont like wasting food at all. When ever i try to do it a sudden picture of those who sleep empty stomach every day comes to my mind. I hate to even think about it.
I loved your idea about turning left over chapatis int chips.
I will try it for sure.
I try to use all left over veggies in vegetable cutlets the next day.
