India Blased Againt Sri Lanka in CWC 1999

In the 21st match of the ICC cricket world cup, Sri lanka was against the India team. This game was played on The Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton, England on 26th May, 1999.

Sri Lanka won the toss and opts to bowl first and therefore India will bat first and set target for Sri Lanka to chase later in the game.

This is how Sri Lankan team and 11 were looking like: Marvan Atapattu, Mahela Jayawardene, Sanath Jayasuriya, Chaminda Vaas,Muttiah Muralitharan, Arjuna Ranatunga (c), Aravinda de Silva, Roshan Mahanama, Romesh Kaluwitharana (wk), Pramodya Wickramasinghe, Eric Upashantha

And Indian team and 11 were looking like: Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid (wk), Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble, Venkatesh Prasad, Mohammad Azharuddin (c), Robin Singh, Javagal Srinath, Ajay Jadeja, Debasis Mohanty, Sadagoppan Ramesh

India started poorly and lost the wicket of S ramesh on the team score of only 6 runs in 0.5 over’s. Then Saurav Ganguly and rahul dravid batted superbly for a record breaking partnership and both scored their centuries as well. Saurav ganguly made 183 runs in 158 balls with 17 4’s and 7 sixes at the strike rate of 116 runs and Rahul Dravid made 145 runs in 129 balls with 17 4’s and 1 six at the strike rate of 112 runs in 100 balls. India managed to score 373 runs in 50 over’s at the loss of 6 wickets only.

Sri Lanka were needed to score 374 runs in 50 over’s to win this game.

Sri lanka batted well but this total is so much for their team to chase and they managed to score and were bowled out for 216 runs in 42.3 over’s with Aravinda de silva top scored for them by making 56 runs in 74 balls with 7 4’s at the strike rate of 76 runs in 100 balls and Skipper A ranatunga made 42 runs in 57 balls.

Sri Lanka lost the match by 157 runs.

Saurav Ganguly was the Man of the match for his great batting.
