The Increasing Violence Against Police

Violence against police in America is getting out of control.  Last week in Dallas, 5 police officers were assassinated while they protected those who protested against them.  The next day, violence erupted in other cities as other officers were shot and injured.  In my city of St. Louis, Missouri, an officer conducting a routine traffic stop was ambushed and shot from behind.

He’s now in the hospital fighting for his life in the ICU.  When did we stop respecting our law enforcement and police officers?  When did they become the target of a violent war being waged on our own soil?

It is true that there are bad police officers out there – just like there are bad nurses or bad grocery store baggers.  But we don’t see open protest about them on the street, do we?  Police have become public enemy number one due to the actions of just a bad few.  Almost nightly protests are getting out of hand – requiring riot police to be called in and arrests to be made.  Freedom of speech is a must in America, but there is a limit to its boundaries.  Hate speech isn’t allowed…but it is currently being allowed towards police and law enforcement.

How to solve violence?

How can we solve this problem of increasing violence?  I think the police in Dallas made a good example – they used a robot to blow up the suspect who had killed 5 of their fellow officers and wounded 6 others.  These violent attacks on police need to be met with swift justice.  The penalties for those who commit an act of violence against officers need to be harsh and bond needs to be a word not even considered when arraigning them!  Criminals and protesters will only learn by seeing those who resort to violence punished harshly, then they will think twice before they follow in other’s footsteps.
