The Ignored Power of Hate

I am often surprised by the inability of people to appreciate the absolute power of hatred.   For some reason we are to believe that ‘love’ is a great power when it is only in few situations that it manifests.  In almost all situations, hatred is the overarching impetus.

People will always go against their personal desires and interest if they can manifest their hatred.   They will vote against what will benefit them if they can, even in a minor capacity, express their hatred.

I have seen what I thought were ‘normal’ people, become absolutely insane in expressing hatred.  Shrieking, humiliating themselves, investing every atom of their being into emitting that hatred.

Whether it is for a person, a political party, a genre, once hate is triggered, nothing is off the table.

If one can activate another’s hatred, the control over them is complete.  They will put themselves to risk, to expense to express that hatred.

They do not need to ‘get’ anything.  They can lose what they have, but the joy of being able to harm, even obliquely, someone or something they hate, is enough.

Donald Trump, for example, tap into the deep well of racism, sexism and Islamophobia.    Those who heard him, who hate those of different races or sexes or religion, immediately grasp onto him, and expressed their hatred and continue so to do.   He need not do a further act.   He can backtrack, he can change his focus, it does not matter.  The hatred is exposed and able to manifest.

America, as other Western nations, have put clamps on the tongues of their citizens so that they can not say what they feel, they can not use certain words.  This causes the hatred to burrow deep within them.   They will give a politically correct statement, they will hold themselves in a particular manner, but inside, they seethe, and getting a chance to express it creates perfect joy.

In Europe, ‘Nationalistic’ (a euphemism for Islamophobia and race hate) Parties will do very well at the polls.  None of them need use a single ‘politically incorrect’ word or gesture.  Everyone knows what they stand for, and so they will be elected.

In 1984, George Orwell recognised the power of hate.  To keep a lid on society, to keep people marching like sheep and locked into the grid, every day there would be two minutes of hate where the citizens could express their feelings in the loudest most offensive manner.

Once that hate was gotten out of their system, they were able to go back to their horrible lives purged and content.

Such is the power of hate.
