I Remember You, As I Watch The Tree Falls In Front Of Me

I Remember You, As I Watch The Tree Falls In Front Of Me
I do not know why the tree falls in front of me
There is no wind, no rain, and no flood
There is no lightning that strikes upon its body and weight
I ask myself many times with the same question, why?
Of all the places and in this place a tree falls
It is a very strong tree no doubt of it
I think I am dreaming while standing in front of you
I say no single word when your body drops to the ground
I am afraid I would be hit with the splinters of your twigs
As I look at you falling, many things come into my mind

It is as quick as a flash of lightning
It is as quick as a wink of an eye
Somewhere in the past I saw a huge tree
And there was you and me sitting upon its huge trunk
I was in my teen and so you too
We talked to the tree if we are meant to be someday
As if we were crazy that time knowing we’re just friends
Time and time again we made the tree our usual meeting place
Then one day you confessed to me your love
I was not afraid to listen about it for I had learned to love
The way you care me and the way you spare some precious moments with me
Yet, I was not quick in giving you my response that I love you too
For I was a young lady and having no experience about love
All I knew I was so happy with you, and lonely if you were not around
I was always seeking your presence and your nearness
It seems music abounds in my heart the way it beats for you
I was so sure that was love I cherished each day
Then one day you were gone without telling me where you have been
I been searching you night and day for I was ready to tell you
How much you mean to me and how the feeling grows
Yet time was so unkind between you and me
For you were gone and never knew your whereabouts
I felt sick thinking about how you turned my life that way
I was like a fool longing too much of your presence
I am just human in love yet the love from you turned unknown
Then one day, I learned from a stranger who was our witness
He often saw us in the past, in our tender years how we showed love
This stranger was the living witness how this tree was made a rendezvous
Of our shattered love and dream

I saw from that old man’s eyes tears falling incessantly
In my remote mind I saw some fears through the man’s tears
We had that combinations of our sobs, yet I did not know
I sobbed that way unknowingly and I was grasping my breath
When the stranger said, your love had passed away five years ago
As if I was hit by a very sharp dagger and I was about to fall from where I stood
My tears were shedding like a river flowing
My past love, my first love had cancer and he was 16.

This day when I stood up in front of this big tree
I felt the sudden ache of my heart
A big tree was once a witness of our broken dream
This tree in front of me, sided my lonesome feeling
It stumbled down and fell to the ground, helpless
This tree, in front of me, let me see how the love of my life died in misery
For I was not there beside him to bade goodbye,
And to hear from me if I loved him too
I supposed to…but too late and he will never know
I hope this tree that falls down in front of me will tell my love
How much I love him too and how much I carry the pain that may never end
As long as I live.

    • I hope someone to pass by and read the lines of my poem that tells about a shattered love and dream. I hope you learned a lesson about my past love.yes, i should have let him know that I love him too. I sometimes feel guilty of that unspoken love. What a sad feeling ,love real never triumphed in the past and it will never happen again. I cannot find a substitute of that shattered love and dream.
