First day of college can really get on your nerves! From deciding what to wear to pinning in on the stuff you need to carry on the first day, making decisions can give you a real hard time. Preparing for the first day of college needs you to be completely ‘hands-on’ over your choices and needs.
Beginnings are always the harbingers of change. A totally new atmosphere, new set of people, a different aura might send chills of excitement down your spine. Your first day at college will most probably leave a tingling your mind as there would be too much to explore.
There are a number of things that one needs to keep in mind before you set off the alarm for your first day at college! Make sure that you’ve arranged all the important stationary that will be absolutely essential the next day. Do not end up sitting in the class with no notebook or paper; making yourself scribble notes on your hands with some borrowed ink! Keep a planner and a notepad to come handy in case your professor gives you important points to jot down.
Your class schedule is the sole medium that will keep you apprised of where you’re supposed to be, so keep it with you throughout the day. In case if it’s possible, locate your classes a few days prior to their start. In this manner you’ll be at ease with the locations and wouldn’t have to worry about how much time you need to get from one corner of your campus to the other.
Another point to remember is not to overdress on your first day! You don’t need to look incredibly nice or extremely overwhelming on the first day of your college. Dress up casually and most importantly ‘decently’ which will directly make you look disciplined!
Remember to get up on time on your first day. It absolutely mars your impression on the faculty if you turn up late for the very first class. This way you’ll surely get noticed, but for a wrong reason!
When your professor asks questions, make sure to respond and be a part of the discussion taking place. Don’t keep yourself alienated; the more you participate the more comely you present yourself to others. Being nice and responsive will get you to interact with your classmates on the very first day. Another thing to keep a mental note of is to carefully choose the place where you intend to sit. So do not end up in the farthest and remotest corner of the class! Sit at a place from where you can interact with your teachers, because obviously on the first day you’ll not be under the temptation to sit with your gang, as there will be no gang!
Avoid any pre-class jitters and keep yourself relaxed. After all you’ll be spending another three or four years with the same lot of people, you can always catch up on people a little later. There is no harm in being excited but make sure to keep yourself calm and to follow your heart!
