How to choose the right foreign University for you?

Are you straight out of school; searching for a perfect foreign university?  Picking up the right foreign university might be quite challenging for young people. There is a plethora of options to choose from, reason being why the process becomes so confusing. Students get overwhelmed by the equally good universities spread across various parts of the globe, not able to pin in on a particular one.

To help you choose the right foreign university, fragment all your needs and choices into sub categories and then add up the conclusion of each module to reach the most apt place for you to study abroad. So spare yourself the stress of over thinking and just go through the following decisive factors before choosing:

SELECT A COUNTRY
Different countries are known to excel in different fields of education. While the US might be good for a degree in management, Singapore is known for its facilities to study medicine; similarly Germany and Canada are revered for their engineering courses. Do not pick a country based on the aesthetic beauty of a place, do a lot of research about the disciplines which are best offered in that country.

RESEARCH DIFFERENT UNIVERSITIES ACCORDING TO RANKINGS
Once you’ve chosen the country you want to head towards, get down to research a lot about the universities situated there. Do a good check upon the rankings of the universities from reliable sources such as Forbes, US News or Times Higher Education. You can juxtapose various factors of each university against other universities; like faculty, research facilities or the reputation of individual departments.

Next thing to know about the universities is knowing the type of campus it has. There are mainly two types of universities by campus type- city based and campus universities. City based have buildings all over a large area within the city, while a campus based university is more of a unit in itself. Choose one according to your needs.

WEIGH IN YOUR TEST SCORES AGAINST THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Look out for the set of standards you need to pass before you can apply for the university you’ve chosen. Apart from IELTS and TOEFL there may be other exams that need to be cleared. For instance GRE, SAT, MCAT etc.

GO THROUGH THE CONTENT OF THE COURSE
Your core subject is all that you should focus on. It is essential to go through the contents of your course before enrolling in the university. Stream through the different course subjects and choose yours accordingly.

LOOK OUT FOR SCHOLARSHIPS
A lot of foreign universities are willing to assist students in terms of money, provided they are eligible for scholarships. Both external trusts and university bodies grant financial aid to students who need it. Do good amount of research on university websites to avail such aids.

ASK PEOPLE IN PERSON, POST QUERIES
After having chosen all your decisive factors, root in to talk to some real people about any queries that remain in your mind. It is always best to ask someone who has had a background in that country or with that university. Get in touch with alumni or seniors and also don’t hesitate to ask questions from the university admission officers.
