How Not To Suffer Serial Withdrawal

It has happened to me, more than once.  I’ll be watching a serial, and there’s the last episode, and suddenly, I feel bereft.  I have ‘lost’ something.  There’s an empty space.  Now What?

This happens when once doesn’t have back-ups and side shows, so that when one ends, (or there’s a break in the season) there’s just an empty space.

It has taken me a time to develop a pattern which works.

Find a long series, whether it is still on or ceased; of upwards of Eight Seasons.   Begin to watch.  Find another long series, and after getting a few episodes into the first, start watching that one.   Now find one of those highly rated series, which is limited; either it is only X number of episodes or has a very long break in the season.

Watch this new series sparingly; that is, one from the first series, one from the second, and then, one of the third.  When the third series ends, there is always the first and second to fill the ‘gap’, and another new series is found.

In this way, the ‘old friends’ of series one and series two keep you company when you series three ends.

As soon as the long series is coming to it’s last; find another long series, and watch an episode or two, then continue with the first, watching an episode of the new long one every few days.  At the end of Series One, New Series takes it’s place.

For example, NCIS is a long series, So is Blue Bloods, Grey’s Anatomy, (there are others).   They are the ‘backbone’ of your viewing.  Shows like The Crown, Victoria, Sherlock, Broadchurch are short and the ‘mourning’ period for the loss of the short show is cut because the old pals are still around.

The nice part of watching on demand is, watching on demand.
