Honesty is not always the Best

Carly posted a gushing birthday wish for the ‘Greatest Daddy Ever!’ on Facebook.   She gushes like a broken water main.   Those of us who know her Daddy have to bite our tongues and keep our fingers from the keyboard, Because her Daddy spent all his time running down women, never supported her, never bought her anything but a bicycle, (which he sold to give one of his many gals a gift).

Carly’s mother worked, bought her everything, took her everywhere.  But Carly never gushes about her mother. Only her Dad; who was virtually worthless.

No one says a word to Carly.  She’s in her mid-thirties, and if she can go to her grave in her fantasy world, why shove in the truth?  It is her fantasy.   She must cling to it or else she would not feel ‘herself’.

Lisa got pregnant when she was in High School.  Her mother got her an abortion.  No one knows.  She met and married a man when she was twenty one.  He doesn’t know that he wasn’t her first man or that she had the abortion.  She’s so afraid that her mother will tell her husband that she keeps a wide distance.  But her mother wouldn’t.  Because who Lisa was, why Lisa got pregnant, belongs to a different Lisa.

Tim had a rough life and wound up in Prison when he was young.  He came out, changed his life, became successful, and married.  His wife doesn’t know about his past.  There’s nothing she needs to know because the Tim he was doesn’t exist any more.  That Tim stopped existing before he left prison.

Do these people need to know ‘The Truth!”   How would that help them?  Set them free from what?   Make Carly stop loving her father?  Have Lisa and Tim lose their spouses, or take the risk?  Why?

Somethings, NOW things need to be shared because they effect one’s life NOW.   But Then things, a past that is gone and nearly forgotten doesn’t need to be resurrected.
