Hey! Maybe We’ll Get Another Chance at the World Cup!!!

In 1998 they played the Jamaican National Anthem at the World Cup in France.

Yeah, I cried.  I stood there, looking at the television, singing along, tears rolling down my face, cause I never really believed we would be there, at the most important arena.

I recall someone saying something about, “the World Cup is far more important than life and death..” with which I agreed.

The biggest mistake were those silly condom commercials, which said; “Somewhere in the world some is using a condom… not like you watching television…”  which went over like a lead balloon.  Who wants to be using a condom when they can be watching The World Cup?

Since the year 1998 we haven’t qualified for the World Cup.  Only the 32 top teams get to go.

In Concacaf, our division, only three teams get to go.  That’s usually Mexico, the United States, and some other country, maybe Honduras, maybe Panama, maybe Costa Rica.

Not us.

Now, with the increase of places, it maybe possible to see Jamaica on the pitch at the World Cup in 2026.  This is because FIFA has decided to expand The World Cup to host  Forty Eight instead of Thirty Two teams.

According to the latest information, there will be an initial stage of 16 groups of three teams which will precede the knockout stage for the remaining 32 places at the 2026 tournament.

The number of tournament matches will rise from 64 to 80, but the eventual winners will still play only seven games.

The tournament will be completed in thirty two days, so there’ll be a lot of competitions, running back to back and at the same time, so that the television won’t be shut off for a long time…

Hopefully Concacaf will get one or two more places, meaning that all things being equal, our anthem should be playing on that pitch in 2026.
