HAVE TEA, LIVE LIFE… WITH THE DIVINE HERB

“TEA IS THE DIVINE HERB”… XU GUANGQI

“DOING NOTHING IS RESPECTABLE AT TEA”… in SASAKI SANMI, SADO SAIJIKI

India is well- known globally , as it is one of the largest tea producers in the world, with over 70% of the tea being consumed within India itself. Tea is commercially grown in India mainly three primary areas…. DARJEELING in the north, ASSAM in the north-east & NILGIRI in the south. Other tea producing regions are TARAI & DOOARS, KANGRA, ANNAMALISE, WAYANAAD, KARNATAKA, MONNAR, TRAVANCORE.

Most popular is DARJEELING TEA, for it’s fabulous flavour and color. DARJEELING lies high in the foothills of THE HIMALAYAS. DARJEELING TEA is often very colorful with shades of gold, brown, green and white in dry leaves. It has lighter golden loquor, with floral, ‘GREENER’ flavour than other black teas. If you have experienced, you know better!

ASSAM lies in the north-east corner of the country. There are around 800 tea estates in ASSAM. ASSAM TEA is also popular. It is very bold, rich and astringent.

Tea drinking in some parts of India started since 750 BC. Buddhist monks of the country have been aware of it’s medical value since thousands of years. The British observed that locals in Assam were preparing a vegetable using tea leaves in the 16th century and the same leaves also used to prepare medical drinks.

Tea is commonly consumed as a stimulant and refreshing drink. Not only immediate benefits, tea provides invaluable long term benefits to human body. This is a subject of ongoing research.

    • A very informative article of India as a major tea producing nation the world. One more place where tea is produced which I would like to highlight here which I know is the Girnar Forest in Gujarat I think the name of the tea coming from this place is identified with the name of the brand Girnar tea. There may be many other places where tea is produced in India but the same may be in small pockets. Tea also comes in different flavors some of the flavors which I have tasted are the Green tea which is mentioned above, I have also tasted different varieties like ginger, chocolate, orange, lemon, dust tea, clove, masala, granular variety, pico, Assam and Darjeeling variety and also the Nilgiri tea.

Tea is a favorite with all sections of the population whatever their financial or social status. The good thing is, it is affordable by one and all and also enjoyed by one and all. It has polyphenol a type of antioxidant, phytochemicals, it has less caffeine than coffee, it may also help in protecting bones and reduce weight. There are many other benefits which have to be researched and documented. India can increase the production of tea as there is a growing market for tea worldwide.
