Hand care: The Body Shop’s Almond Hand and Nail Cream

I noticed that the wind here in Ireland this year is drier in comparison to the past years I lived here. The past years, I never experienced getting my hands so dry during summer even when indoors so I seldom use lotion when I know I am not going out. However, this year is different. Even when I am indoors, my skin seems dry, flaky, and sometimes itchy. As a result, I noticed my knuckles got so dry, I ended up having red patches in it! I am not sure if it’s just the weather or my skin really needs some much-needed TLC. I started taking care of my face a lot more and now, I am doing the same with my hands. Probably as a result of aging? Sobs!

My husband usually has drier hands and use highly moisturized hand lotions as a result. He usually uses The Body Shop’s Almond Hand and Nail Cream regularly to keep his hands moisturized the whole day. And because I noticed that my knuckles started to get red as a result of being dry, I started using it, too.

I immediately noticed the light scent from the hand cream but even if the label claims it is made from almond, it doesn’t have any “nutty” scent in it. The smell is not too strong and instantly disappears a few minutes after applying. I would’ve wanted the scent to linger for longer but I guess it is better than having to deal with the smell for too long!

The texture is really nice and smooth. The lotion is not greasy and easily absorbed by my skin, too. I also needed to use just about a pea-sized portion of the product for each hand to make sure it gets enough moisture it needs. One application is enough to keep my hands moisturized the whole day unless I wash my hands frequently. It is something really important to me as my hands can get sweaty especially during really hot days. And for fellow people with likewise sweaty hands, you’ll know how icky it feels to mix sweat and lotion, argh!

After using the hand cream for a few days, I instantly noticed the improvement on my hands. I noticed that the flakiness disappeared and after a couple more days, the red patches on my knuckles were gone, too!

The packaging is like a thick aluminum tube. It actually reminds me of the packaging for tomato paste like Roma. It is alright but only while the product is new. As you use the product and it’s time to try to squeeze the last bit of hand cream from it, it gets harder since the tube is not squeezable. I hope Body Shop will improve on this packaging so it is easier to get the last ounce of hand cream!

Overall, I am happy with this and repurchased again. My husband likes this and I also use this when I see my hands suffering from the dry winds in Ireland.

      • Oh lucky you! I used to have really low maintenance skin and can get away without using too much lotion or creams but that changed this year, I am not sure why. That's why these days, I need to take care of my skin and hopefully get it back as it used to.

    • It sounds like a great product for dry skin. Some suffer awfully bad with dry skin. Any product that can help keep skin moisturized. Appreciate the review. I'm glad the product is working and hope that you're skin continues to get better.

      • Thanks for that and I am hoping for the same, too. It feels good to know there are products that are reasonably priced I can use when I need it instead of going to a specialist to buy something ridiculously expensive!
