Guitars: Take care of your strings!

Every guitar player knows this dilemma. Guitar strings always break. Even though you’ve bought the best and most expensive of strings, they either lose their quality or just break. And I’m telling you, broken strings are really dangerous. Just imagine if one flies out to your face. It will really hurt.

Well anyway, we’re here to talk about taking care of them, not how bad they are. There first best thing to do is to always clean them. Use a piece of cloth to remove whatever particles your instrument has acquired. You can also use a piece of paper, folded in half, to reach the under part of the strings. It could get really hard to reach that part, especially if you use a thick cloth to clean your guitar.

Also, sweat can make strings rust and allow them break easily. It is best to wash your hands before playing, but be sure to keep them dry first. Common sense tells that water and metal don’t like each other at all. Speaking of sweat, there are also people who sweat a lot or have acidic sweat. There are brands of strings out there that won’t rust as quickly as most other brands do. Try googling for them.

But if you play your guitar a lot, then they might even break before they begin to rust. There’s no other way to stop this except if you stop playing. Now we wouldn’t want that do we? So keep a few extra strings on hand. Guitar strings have a limited lifespan and won’t last forever. Except, of course, if they were infused with the magic of the Guitar God. Instead of buying the same brand of string every time you go to the store, experiment on different brands and see which one works best.

And no, please don’t put WD40 on it. It will ruin the not-string portion of the guitar.
