Where do I see the word count while writing posts?

May 13, 2016 at 4:49 pm

Maybe the WordPress setting of the draft part do not have a word count. If I am blogging, I try to blog using MS Word to know the number of words on my blog and then I copy paste it in here.

I am thinking if we can suggest this feature to be added to our forum comment and also blog post. It would be so much helpful when we can just type our comment or post while knowing how many words we have written, so we do not need to use any other program, then copy and paste. I hope this is not too difficult to implement, as I think WordPress has this feature built in.

@support Do you think this is feasible?

Since you have tagged support we will wait and see what they have to say.

I have used a website that would count the words in my post and then I downloaded LibreOffice and then just copy and pasted into here. Although, I did not like the way my post turned out with the formatting of it. So I will have to play around and see how to change that. It would be nice to have the word count while writing the post in this site. It would make it a lot easier than copy and paste.

@morgoodie  – I want the site to provide it for us. Any good site has that facility.

I remember Bubblews did not have it earlier. I used a word counter online. After posting 750 articles someone saw my post the very first one which had less than  400 characters and my account was deleted. I am a disciplined person and this upset me very much.

I don’t remember seeing Word Count when I submitted my post; and have asked support if it is possible to integrate it in the submission form. The answer was they will look into it. It would be nice to have with spell check too. However, since the site is still new, I think we should just use other sources to do the counting for us.

I usually use Word processing to write, then copy and paste in the editor of the site. That way I also have a copy for myself, and don’t have to worry about it later or looking for it on the internet!

Most sites that I have been on, have that. It saves our time. I do not keep copies of these kind of posts anyway and I too use word for counting.

I believe the word count could be added to the front-end submit form that we use here, but I’m actually hoping that higher rank will give us access to the back-end “new post” and “edit” functions. This will allow for better control over how posts display, and if combined with certain plugins it could also help users to improve SEO and customize social sharing options (e.g. uploading images that will automatically display in a Facebook, Pinterest or Twitter share so no pics get cut off in the post.)

@bestwriter I agree that a good site should provide word count. But I also think a good writer composes offline and saves her posts 😉

@morgoodie I am having display issues related to a software update at the moment, so I really can’t tell whether pasting in from a word processor is messing up my formatting here. There is a trick that allows you to better control formatting – but only if you can submit/edit in HTML mode rather than in rich-text editor. I don’t believe we can do that at the moment, but fingers crossed that it will come with the increased rank 😀

 @Ruby3881 You don’t see it on the editor of Literacy base but I write my blog posts on word pad where I can keep a track of number of characters as well word count.

@ruby3881

Your message that I am not a good writer is loud and clear because I do not compose offline. But the sites that I am writing for do not say that. As long as you do not own a site, I am fine. I notice you are always on the defensive when it comes to this site. I fully appreciate that. A good user should do that at all times. I am proud of you. Here’s to you.

I only save those posts that are informative composed by doing some research.

This is a good feedback. We will be working on providing word count as well.
