@support has clearly explained the ramifications of having the edit button that can be misused.

I just wanted to know if we could atleast have a preview and there make changes. Preview is not published and therefore perhaps this could be provided.

@bestwriter Agreed, a preview before publishing can be helpful for both posts and comments.

As far as the abuse of the edit button goes, I think sites need to learn to trust the regular contributors not to abuse. There are good reasons to edit, not the least of which is to correct errors or to update information in order to improve the SEO value of a post.

I can understand not allowing a brand new user to edit, just as I understand moderating all posts by a new member. But at a certain point it will become impossible to moderate all posts, and already we are seeing dry spells where no new content is being published.

It’s clear that giving users more freedoms is a risk, but a risk often pays off by bringing benefits to the one who took it. Insisting on a rigid rule will always cost the site, and the cost only climbs the more times the rule must be applied.

With everything said and done, I am this close to donate and ask staff to de-publish my blog posts at least the ones which are personal. I don’t like a lock at doors and a few things irk me, so I can not function like this.

Agree!  A preview will be good.

I think when it can be implemented at the point of submitting a new post.  Instead of just “submit”, it should let us “preview” and if we are satisfied, then we click “submit”.

If not satisfied, we can return to edit the post.

As long as it is not submitted for review, there is no harm in editing again and again.

I also agree about a preview before posting.  The mods had to go and edit a title of one of my posts because I made a typo.  It would save them work like that.  It could be a one time preview, it would prevent concerns about going back and editing or erasing work long past its posting, but still give people the chance they are looking for to check things.

@ruby3881  Trusting members is the way to go and in my entire history of writing online I have never once edited with the purpose of getting a better place on the net but merely to correct any typos. Sometimes no matter how many times we read the text mistakes just evade us.
There is a joke about a typist who was asked to prepare a nameplate for her boss.

He wrote his name and below it typed

The rapist

He was a Therapist.

I couldn’t agree more.  Probably the dashboard of wordpress is the best to use so that we can all maximize the use of the site on earning s few bucks in a month.

Aside from the preview,  a word counter should also be helpful.
