I’m still finding my way around this site and I sent 2 messages.  My question is, do we get email notifications when we get messages?  Does anyone expect messages, so that thy might have one they can check?

Just curious, because as I stated before I sent 2 messages to two of my friends here and just wondered if there is a way that we know that they got them?  Because I just found the message option recently.

Members receive notifications of private messages (the same orange boxes we see for other notifications.) I think if you want, you can elect to get an email too. I turn all my email notifications off, so I’m not sure.

That I’m aware of, the only way to know if the message was received is to ask your friend or to wait for a reply to come. A read receipt would be nice, but I don’t think there is an option for that built into the site.

I think it is possible. I had also received a message and I was notified.

Normally the ‘message’ tab shows a number if we have received messages. That you will find in your profile page.

Yes, I noticed that Message with a number 1 means I have a private message incoming.

These private message cannot be seen by others.

I like this type of message because my email is full of junk mails.

However, you don’t the reply immediately because of our time zone.

@JoDee Stout  Yes, we get a notification when a message is received. I have received email notifications too for incoming messages and it is also reflected here on the site.

I also turn off my email notifications, so I am not sure if we will be notified when we have new messages. I usually get to know if I have got a message from the number next to the envelope icon on the top right corner. So, if I do not login to LB, I will not get to know if I have got messages.

There are 2 ways people know about private messages.

1. On login, they get a notice at the bottom – You have 1 new message. This happens for all.

2. If you have enabled email notifications from profile setings page, then generally you get an email too.

About public messages, rule 2 works. I am not sure about 1st way (mentioned above) for public messages but I guess it works for them as well.

I have enabled all messages in my mailbox creating a new category for this site so they all are welcome. I read them and respond them which really need my reaction.

@Ruby 3881, Sometimes I wonder about the notifications sent to me for when I open them others gone. I do not know where those go. Have you also noticed some notifications gone before they were opened? Notifications should not be deleted if not yet read, so weird.

Jodee, there is a message from admin if your message to someone is replied. I always get info that someone wrote me and I replied.The same to the person I am replying, there is also info from the site that someone has resp0nded my message. Try to check your inbox there you will see many mesages and notifications.
