Give it up for the Nigerian Paralympians

As at the time of writing this report, the Team Nigeria contingents at the Rio 2016 Paralympic games have garnered 11 medals – 8 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. This has already surpassed their previous record in the last Paralympic games where they won just 5 gold medals.

The Paralympic games is the follow up of the Olympic games for athletes with some kind of physical challenge

We could sharply recall that the main Olympics events was just completed some weeks ago in Rio Brazil and the full-fledged, able bodied athletes of Team Nigeria could not boast of even a charcoal medal let alone a bronze, silver or gold medal if not for the hard earned bronze medal won by the football contingents – The Dream Team VI.

Well, we could make some excuses for the Nigerian Olympic team following their ill preparation or even the lack of it. We all saw the drama that the Dream Team had to face in the build up to the Olympic Games. They arrived in Brazil just close to 3 hours to the kick-off of their first match after the Nigerian sports ministry could not provide a plane to convey them to Brazil from their camp in Atlanta. They were actually abandoned in Atlanta when the sports minister Barr. Solomon Dalung denied knowing that they were camping in Atlanta. But that’s not what I’m saying for now.

Looking at team Nigeria at the ongoing Paralympic games, one would see athletes who are poised and determined to show the world what they are capable of. In spite of their physical and psychological challenges, they are making waves in the competition and are currently the number one African country on the medals table.

These entire feats have been achieved even after the sports ministry also complained of lack of funds to supports them as they prepared for the Paralympic games. I think we should give them a big round of applause

    • So there was a complaint about lack of funds. I imagine that a “hindrance” like that must be like a “walk in the park”. They have already overcome so much more!! :) I'm saluting them and applauding them! :)
