We are facing twin storm in the area of responsibility of the Philippines. These two storms are in the track located in the northern Philippines which includes our region of Ilocos and our province of Ilocos Sur. This has been normal situation because this time of the year, typhoon’s path usually in our place. It will start from the east particularly in the Pacific Ocean and moving west or west-north until it reach Taiwan or Japan.
Now, typhoon Ferdie which got a category 4 warning signal is giving us intense rain. Lots of rain because it pulls the southwest monsoon. It has been raining in our place. The only consolation is that there is no strong winds. It would have been damaging if the combined force of wind and rain occurred.
But we are not yet safe because while typhoon Ferdie which got 240 kilometers per hour and battering Batanes Group of Islands, another typhoon named Gener is following Ferdie. That makes two typhoon in our AOR.
We Are Prepared Now.
Thanks to the initiatives and programs of our government, we have been frequently reminded to always be ready in times of disaster. There have been training and seminars for the local disaster risk reduction council. Procurement of emergency vehicles and even first aid things and relief goods. There is quick response team to go in every emergency situation.
Thanks to typhoon Haiyan who awaken the government and give importance to disaster operation and emergency response in times of storms. Many local officials are staying in the municipal or city hall just to be on hands in this crisis situation.
People in the community were also advise to be always on alert. There might be some rescue operations but they are advise that when flood is getting higher they must know where is the evacuation center and proceed there. They should not wait for rescuers, if they think they are in danger, they must move themselves in safer grounds.
We are again in the eye of storms and unlike the previous years, we know now what we should do to avoid wrath of this kind of natural disasters.

very recently also there was an earthquake of 6.1 intensity in the Philippines. These are also common there. But, you are having a good warning system. your Government is capable of tackling this situation in an effective manner.
We have to be always prepare because every year we are being battered by more or less 20 destructive typhoons, aside from that we are in the ring of fire, we are also in the disasters like earthquake, volcano eruptions and floods. This is the reason why the government is giving to much fund and attention to this concern.
I had heard that the local government pushed the Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) training to the local government unit. It is the best way to help out our fellow men in times like this.
You can never be too careful about such calamities, because they come when you are unawares thereby causing a lot mayhem. The one thing I would like to ask is how those typhoons get their names, how do they get to be named the way that they are. But it's better to be safe than never. The measures that th3 government has put is for a short period of time that could help but is it a lasting situation? This ar3 things that we cannot anticipate but the best we can do is to stay away from places that are prone to such dangers.
