Everyone has things in their past which they wish hadn’t happened. Sometimes it can be very hard to put the past behind us and move on with our lives. Holding on to the past however, ends up holding us back emotionally. Coming to terms with things and letting them go is often the best thing you can do. It’s time to stop letting your past control you!
Your past isn’t going to get any better. Whining and crying about unfairness and injustices which you’ve previously faced will only now make a bad situation worse. Why put your time and effort into something that is negative? It’s better to do something about the present – something positive! You can’t rewrite history and change the past but you can change how you write your future.
Having been treated unfairly or badly in the past is all the more reason to treat yourself well now. Stop being hard on yourself or judging yourself harshly. Stop beating yourself up over mistakes you made in the past. Concentrate on what you can do to make today a god day, not on those mistakes of the past. Things can change and you can make it happen! If you remain a prisoner to your thoughts though, you won’t succeed.
A story goes…In the middle ages, a man was falsely imprisoned. For 20 years he lay in his cell as the jailer, wearing a large ring of keys, brought him a meal of bread and water each day. One day, the man decided to commit suicide but didn’t want to kill himself. He decided to do it by attacking the jailer and letting him kill him. In preparation, he decided to examine the door. To his surprise – he found it unlocked. He walked out of the cell and past the guards, who paid no attention to him, to his freedom. All those years, he’d been held prisoner by this thought that the door was locked…
Don’t fall victim to your thoughts – take control!

That's a nice anecdote at the end of your post and your point is taken. Each day is a brand new day. Some people like to ask: Does life give you second chances? My answer: As long as you live, each day you woke up was more than a chance. It was a precious blessing gifted to you by your Creator. Don't screw up! If you already screwed up, then don't keep screwing up! DUH!! Don't wait for any chances. Rather use the time you have been given wisely. :)

It is no secret that the majority of us with anxiety have "thinking" problems that sometimes tear us down and make us feel miserable and depressed. Although some of these "thinking styles" may come very naturally to us, it is always possible to change or restructure thinking so that we can be more rational, allowing life to be more enjoyable and productive.
Our emphasis in therapy is always toward the practical: That is, how can I take the information I learn in therapy and apply it to my daily life, so that my life can be calmer and more peaceful, and I can better cope with the difficulties I face in life?
I dwell on negative events or worry excessively about what might happen in the future. When I get into this "vicious cycle" of thinking, it is hard to think realistically and remember all the good and positive things in your life.
The negative things we dwell upon are not helpful to us at all. They lead us to think even more negatively and we get stuck in this cycle of "over thinking" and the "racing" thoughts about negative events that have happened and which we think will continue to happen.
Solution: Learn to put a stop to this negative vicious cycle of thinking and to replace these ANTs thoughts with rational, progressive statements and thoughts that are more realistic.
