FC Barcelona – Juventus 0:0 match Analysis

The second match in the second leg in the 1/4 finals between FC Barcelona and Juventus finished in a tie. The ending result was 0:0, which opened the semi-finals gates for Juventus as the aggregate result was (0:3), from the previous match when they humiliated Barca at Juventus stadium in front of their home crowd.

The stats say 61% possession for Barcelona and 39% for Juventus, which is true. The Catalans were dominating the game, but apparently it was not even close enough to help them find the lead to Juventus’s net. The most deserving player for this thing is Juventus’s captain Giorgio Chiellini, for saving his team from falling in the abyss. The second most deserved player probably was Bonucci and then Gianluigi Buffon who stayed at top-form even at this stage of his life, where he is 39 year old.

Barca had 17 total shots and 21 free kicks. They also managed to take 13 corners throughout the game. The total passes between Barcelona team
tonight is 585, but the amount of correct passes is only 492.

If we look at Juventus statistics they had 12 total shots as they were playing more a defensive game, 4 corners, and only 355 total passes through the game, which of course only 258 of them were correct passes.

But here it is what it is, the stats should not lie, statistically the home team dominated, but on the field it was an equal game till the last minute. Maybe Barcelona had plenty of chances, but none of them was really critical for Juve’s defense. After all they don’t have the title “best defense in the world” in vain.

Now let me discuss and analyze this game and its progress. Every second goal attempt by Barcelona to an attempt to endanger Buffon’s goal, was flawlessly blocked by Juventus. Insanely frustrating isn’t it? But Barca also had a bad shooting form today. Messi himself missed 2 key shots that could been inside the net.

As for the referee, the arbitration was nearly perfect, only when he didn’t whistle a clear penalty for Barcelona but that would not change the game much as it would have been probably 1:0 and Juventus still would go to the semi finals phase (1:3 aggregate).
