Once a year there is a very important day of Atonement, and I fast from sundown the day before until three stars are seen the next day. That is about 25 hours with no food nor water.
As I have been doing it for most of my life it isn’t odd to me, but others who have never done it can’t imagine how I would survive 25 hours with no food nor water.
It isn’t difficult if you know how.
Firstly, starting about two weeks before drink a lot of water. I don’t care if you are running to the bathroom every thirty minutes, you need to really irrigate your body.
It is the need for water which causes people to fail.
The next thing is to, for me, under eat for a week before, then the day of the start, fill your belly. Not over eat, just eat before sundown.
Just before sundown drink a lot of water and brush your teeth really well, and rinse your mouth well.
Then, at sundown I do the evening prayers, then go to bed. I sleep and stay abed until just before morning prayers.
I do the morning session which usually ends around 1 pm, then back to bed. I start the final prayers about 3 until close then at sundown look for three stars and break my fast.
I am not that hungry at the end nor that thirsty.
This is because I have ‘flooded’ my system with water before beginning the fast, and that the last day I ate I did eat more than the day before and the day before that one.
By very little activity I was not putting any strain on my system. By having flooded my system I wasn’t thirsty.
Having fasted with this method many times over the years I find that it is not difficult.

Fasting for one day I don't find difficult. But there are some who fast for several days. I don't know how they do it! I understand it may be for religious reasons or they have a statement or protest about a matter that's important to them. But I still don't see how they do it!
If you start the one day fast as I did, after a while you get a kind of control of it. I'll be straight, when I broke my fast I really wasn't hungry nor thirsty. I probably could have gone to sleep and woken and drank water... and not really been that hungry.
Perhaps there is something God put in our bodies that acts like an “adapter mechanism” so that we can survive without food longer than we even realize.
