The leaves are starting to turn into its autumn colors and fall to the ground. Wait – what? Autumn is starting?! Gosh, it is really EARLY for that, isn’t it? It is just August and it is SUPPOSED to be summer still. But anyway, I guess that’s what we call climate change.
So what do climate change and skincare have in common? In my case, when the colder weather gets in – that’s also the time when my skin starts to get dry and flaky.
I realized that my skin seemed to dry a lot quicker after giving birth and while I am not overly vain, I don’t want to look like as if my husband is maltreating me, LOL! So what to do when you notice that your skin is not as tight or as plump or as hydrated as before? No, the answer is not Botox. How about something cheap as applying a face mask?
There are a lot of types of face masks available. And these are some of the things that you CAN also try for yourself:
1. Sheet mask – This is the popular trend when it comes to Asian skincare. As the name suggests, a sheet is soaked in a liquid/extract/formula of your choice and you can then place the sheet to your face. The sheet has holes for the eyes, nose, and mouth area so you can still move while wearing it. It is recommended to let the sheet stay for 10-15 minutes so your skin can absorb as much liquid as it can. Then, remove the sheet and pat dry (don’t rinse!) the remaining liquid until it dries completely. In my case, I love smearing the sheet to my neck area so the skin there can also benefit from the formula from the sheet.
2. Cream mask/pack – This is something I only discovered recently when I fell in love with Korean skincare. The consistency can be similar to a thicker lotion and it has various active ingredients that you can use to address your unique skin concern. For this, I love using Tony Moly Tomatox massage pack. I also have Nature Republic Bamboo Charcoal Mud Pack but haven’t tried yet (stay tuned!).
3. Peeling/peel-off masks – I hate facial scrubs – I think it does a lot more damage than good. Not only that, but I also read that those “microbeads” inside are made from plastic and not really eco-friendly! So what to do to get rid of old skin cells, then? Peeling/peel off masks is also something I discovered. I used to stay away from anything that says “peeling” since I never really like to see my skin shedding like a snake but with products like Skinfood Balsamic Oil Peeling Mask – it can do this job while gently exfoliating your skin!
4. Gels – Gels are another product I recently discovered and fall in love with! These are water-based products that you can either use to hydrate your skin (similar how you use face creams) or to apply a thick amount to use as a mask! I love the Aloe Vera gels as it is really refreshing to use and not heavy especially during summer!
There are a lot of cheap products out there that you can use (you can even DIY these if you want!) that can help your skin. So, what’s your favorite type of face mask?

Here are the five benefits of using a face mask:
Refines skin pores: Face mask can help you to get clearer skin and more refined pores. It deep cleanses the pores and clears the pores of dead skin cells, metabolic wastes and the oily substances that can clog them.
Increases hydration: Face mask can also bring moisture and hydration to dry and dehydrated skin types. The water from the mask penetrates deep into the skin epidermis to soften the skin and enhance its elasticity. When the skin is hydrated and well moisturized, it becomes easy to apply proper makeup. Also it gives a more plump and youthful appearance to the skin.
Diminishes fine lines: Regular use of face masks can reduce the signs of aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and brown spots and so on. Also you will get to enjoy a softer and smoother skin texture.
Gives even skin tone: Face masks are also designed to diminish hyper-pigmentation and give you more even skin tone and texture. It also promotes the sweat gland secretion so as to increase the oxygen content of the skin.
Firmer skin: Loose skin can make your look older than your age. The problem of loose skin can be easily solved with regular use of face masks. There are certain types of face masks that help to enhance collagen production and fight off free radical damage which will gradually result in firmer, tighter, fresher looking skin.
