Easy to grow flowers

For the environment to improve it is necessary that there  are gardens everywhere.Even those who do not own land could have some pots in their balconies planting anything that helps the environment.

Many hesitate to get into gardening for fear of failure. There are several who will attempt to grow flowers that need a lot of attention and when enough care is not given they will fail to yield.

There are many flowers that require little or no care such as Ixora, Bougaianvillea and periwinkles. There are more.

These are perennials and come in several colours. After the initial care till the plants can stand on their own they just need a bit of water and they will not disappoint the gardener.

Periwinkles propagate on their own with their seeds that drop all over the garden.

Ixora grow from cuttings and will last for several years.

Bougainvillea have a season. They bloom just at the end of the rainy season and last till the beginning of the next rainy season. Bougainvillea grow tall and are ideal as fence protectors as they have thorns that prevent any outsiders to get in. Bougainvillea could also be grown in pots.

For beginners there is a lot of guidance available on the Net. There are step by step tutorials.

Starting with these easy to grow flowers a gardener could try other flowers such as those that grow in seasons.  These need tender care and seeds need to be sown each season.

With practice even seasonal flowers could be successfully grown.

The other easy to grow flowers are allamanda, hibiscus, tiger tail, bird of paradise and last but not the least crotons.

It is sad that crotons are totally ignored. They come in such brilliant colours and can adorn any garden. When nothing else blooms crotons will give that colour.

Once the gardener sees success that will be the beginning of an interesting gardening journey.

    • If I have a piece of land, I rather use it to grow vegetables.
At least I can eat the vegetables. I will not want to waste the land for flowers.
Too bad I live in an apartment block with no land for anything.

    • I have never been that particular about growing flowers but I try with vegetables they grow quite well and I eat up enjoying them most of the time with my meals.I once tried to grow rise flowers but when they started growing I was quite happy with my achievement, but somewhere along th3 like they all died, and when I tried again i didn't achieve what I wanted so I ended up with no roses. I guess am not so good at that. If I wanted flowers I think I would get a gardener to do the work for me.

    • I think growing flowers i easy for all of us if we ponder over it. Plant your flowers. Place each plant into the individual holes prepared for them. Use your hands to fill in the empty space around each flower and cover the top of the root ball. Avoid adding much soil to the top of the flower; the stem of the flowers should never be covered by the dirt.

Flowers, like all plants, need good soil in order to grow up strong and healthy. Regardless of whether you are planting your flowers in a pot or a garden, good soil is a must. Avoid soil that is heavy with clay, sand, or rocks, and that has a balanced pH near 7. Flowers need at least six inches of loose soil to start out growing in, so loosen up a top layer at least this deep.
Test your soil’s pH level to determine if you need to add anything. If your soil has a low pH (high acidity) below 6.5, add in ground sulfur to neutralize it. High pH levels (too alkaline) can be rectified by adding in ground limestone. Both are available at garden centers.

Add in organic materials to add nutrients to your soil. Decomposing leaves and plant matter mixed with your soil will help your plants to grow healthier and faster. Do this a few weeks or months before you plant your flowers so that the nutrients have time to thoroughly mix with the soil.

Mix in some fertilizer . For an added nutrient boost, purchase a bit of fertilizer from a local garden center and mix it in with the soil. This can be done the day of planting, which makes it a quick alternative to weeks of adding organic matter.
