And They Don’t See the Bias

On another site, the discussion of ‘plastic rice‘ was brought up.  I had written an article about it here on literacy base, and it has been on other sites as well.

It is NOT a Hoax.

Those of us, who live in the 3rd or 4th world are not astounded that China would ship this to us.  We know we are dumping grounds.  Our people are used as unaware guinea pigs in experiments.

What can’t be sold in the 1st world is sent to our shelves.

Those in the 1st World slap away our concerns.

“Oh, it’s a hoax!”  they say looking down their noses at us, because really, we are not equal to them.   And if they don’t believe plastic rice is being sold, well it’s not.

After all who knows more?  A fat cat in Ontario Canada, or a nobody in Kingston, Jamaica?

That we, of the 3rd and 4th world receive shoddy and dangerous products from China is of no concern to those in the 1st world.  We’re lucky to get anything.

So China sends us plastic baby strollers which collapse.  It’s only a Jamaican baby who is injured.

So China sends us jeans so badly made they tear when we walk.  It’s only a Jamaican, where could they be going?

So China sends us plastic rice which isn’t good enough for their pigs.  We should be happy to eat it.

This prejudice is why these things happen.

If plastic rice was found in London the inquiry would be world wide.  It would be bleated from the BBC.   There would be an international incident.

But the plastic rice is in Jamaica.  It is in Nigeria.  It isn’t a hoax.   It isn’t a joke.  It isn’t a misnomer.   The rice is plastic and we are supposed to eat it.

After all, we are only 3rd and 4th World people.
