The title is a quote from Ivanna Trump, a previous wife of Donald Trump, in relation to her divorce settlement.
It is advice that serves women well, especially when the reason for divorce is adultery.
Often women get so angry that they pack up and leave with the clothes on their backs, citing; principle!
Years later they realise that “principle” can not eat, wear, or is legal tender.
Being able to separate emotions from economics is learned behaviour, and it needs to be learned.
FACTS
After many years of struggle, of deprivation, a particular entertainer began climbing the charts. He gained a world wide audience. He also had a very hard time keeping the zipper on his pants closed.
He was married, he had children with his wife, and became involved with a Beauty Queen. He claimed he wasn’t ‘really’ married.
His wife was devastated and went to see a lawyer.
She received the best advice ever;
“This year he made Five Million Dollars, next Year he’ll make Ten. Divorce him then.”
The wife took the advice.
The Beauty Queen wasn’t the only female he had impregnated. Women from all over were writing to him, (this is before the existence of the Internet) and she carried the letters to the lawyer.
He told her;
“Respond to each letter, ask for a photo, send a gift. In this way, he has acknowledged each child as his own. This means that if he dies without a will, all the children share 25% of his estate. The more children, the smaller the share each will obtain.”
The Entertainer was unwell and instead of getting medical treatment, he was going to ‘bush doctors’ and using various ‘home remedies’.
Five years passed between the wife’s visit to the lawyer and the Entertainer’s death.
During those five years, the wife got as much property in her name or both their names as a ‘tax break’. Simply put, if Mr & Mrs had their name on the title and Mr died then the whole property would vest in Mrs. None of the outside gals or kids could get 1c because the owner was Mrs and Mrs alone.
When the Entertainer died the arguments over property began. Dying without a will meant the wife got 50% , the children got 25%, and other relatives got 25% of everything he ALONE owned. Anything that was owned by Mr & Mrs went to Mrs alone.
As the Wife had acknowledged so many of his children, (23) that 25% of his estate was divided into 23 pieces.
The Beauty Queen got nothing, her son got 1/23rd of 25%.
The wife, by not ending the relationship, by putting emotions in pause and focusing on economics did very well at his death and is known as his widow.
IT IS NOT EASY
It is not easy for a wife to accept the reality. Many think they would be better off just running into the night to get out of the relationship as soon as possible.
However, if one can follow Ivanna Trump’s dictum they will be doing a lot more for themselves and their future then letting adultery drive them into poverty.

Yes, but you forget one very important thing. Ivana was married to rich man, lived in status where women are respected and have rights, and had something to put into her pocket. Many wives in world put out with drunk with no property, keep taking violence like a good morning coffee and even verbal violence and beatings from relatives simply because they have no resources to escape situation and nobody will help them. How will a victim of domestic violence cope with emotion if everything is against?
