Have you ever heard of a social site called Quora?
One of our Literacy Base members, user name Thinker, wrote an informative post about this site, dated July 25, 2016, titled How to use Q&A platform for blog traffic.
The advice supplied in the post can be followed; however, my recommendation is that the Quora platform should not be used with that one specific purpose or goal in mind, i.e. generating blog traffic.
Quora is not a revenue-share site but rather it is an intelligence community where users or members discuss a lot of things – history, technology, science, fashion, art, politics, food, etc. Many people join in order to engage with other “passionate” and like-minded individuals, to continue their education, to further intellectual and academic discussion on a specific topic, to express their opinions on political and social issues and world affairs, ask questions and hopefully get some answers. In some instances, during the process, the members do share links back to their blogs or articles, if it will provide additional details or information to support the discussion.
Everything is not always super serious at this site.
As an example. You might find a question like this:
(WHOA! That’s a serious question! Need to take a deep breath before diving into this one.)
But you could also find a question like this.
(Seriously? Do we need to discuss this? 🙂 )
I have been a member for several years (since 2013) but confess to not being extremely active. Check in occasionally and leave my “two cents” on a topic that peaked my interest. Some of my answers have actually been voted up. Really! They do! (Trust me. It’s a shock when somebody even reads what I write. It’s an even bigger shock if they give me a Thumbs Up. 🙂 ) I receive Notifications via email or when I sign in I simply click the Notifications button to view what’s been going on since my last visit.
Quora provides is a blogging platform that you can use. It’s free.

If you’re not familiar with the community you might want to visit and browse around I don’t spend a lot of time there but time spent there is always enjoyable, productive, and profitable – not in the monetary sense, but in the sense that I usually walk away with additional knowledge and understanding of a particular subject.
It’s a really good community. It was created by people who used to work for Facebook. They left FB because they were seeking to establish a community that encouraged more more “intelligent” interaction among fellow humans.
( I think. I think that was the reason. Don’t quote me on that. 🙂 🙂 )
As mentioned earlier, I receive Notifications via eMail and within the past year, it seems that more and more of my Facebook friends are signing up.
The same thing folks do at Quora, is the same thing we do right here at Literacy Base. Based on my experience, many LB members are also active in various other social communities I’ve joined. In other words, I see the same faces only in different places. That’s not a bad thing. But it appears that many Quora members are not LB members and as such, it’s a site for making new friends online that you may not meet or be connected to elsewhere on the web, if that’s what you’re looking for. Just sayin’.
