Disney Fun and Surprising Facts

Hi readers! Let’s talk about the happiest place on Earth…DISNEY WORLD!!! It’s summer and kids are out of school and some of us are on vacation. Are you planning to take your kids to Disney World? If so, or even if you are not, here are some fun cool facts about Disney. 20 of them to be exact. They will surprise your mind too!

I am lucky enough to live in Florida, so Disney World is like my second home. I have been there way too many times, and you know what…I keep going back! Many families across America and around the world head to Disney World/Land at all times of the year, but especially over the Summer months!  Here are a list of things that you may or may not have known about Disney World/Land:

1. Actor and comedian Steve Martin used to work at Disney, but not as a performer! He worked in the stores.

2. Actress Michelle Pfeiffer worked at Disney as Alice.

3. Kevin Richardson from Backstreet Boys used to be Aladdin.

4. There is an underground series of tunnels under Magic Kingdom that allows staff and characters to get around the park without breaking the illusion of magic!

5. There’s a real human skull in the Pirates of the Caribbean Ride (treasure room, above the bed)

6. There’s a basketball court inside of the Matterhorn roller coaster

7. When standing in line for Indiana Jones Adventure, Temple of the Forbidden Eye, look for the Eyore sign.

8. There’s a livable apartment in Cinderella’s castle that cannot be booked. Occasionally, one can gain access through a give away, but most of the time it is vacant.

9. When standing in line for Haunted Mansion, look for the ring on the ground. It belongs to the bride in the Haunted Mansion.

10. Disney really is a place for the family! There have been 3 babies born in the theme park.

11. The only place you can buy alcohol at Disney is at Club 33, which is not open to the public. (You have to be a member of the  Club 33. It is very exclusive and expensive!)

12. Over 200 pairs of sunglasses are lost per day, leaving legions of squinting vacationers!

13. There are trashcans approximately every 70 feet. No excuses for litter and why the park is always so clean!

14. So many people try to flash or make lewd gestures at the cameras on Splash Mountain, the park has to hire people to go through the photos and get rid of the ones that aren’t family friendly–opps!

15. People who wish to be buried or have their ashes spread at a Disney Park are in for a disappointment. The park does not allow this, though they do often get requests. I guess you cannot be a Disney Ghost 🙁

16. Disney has an army of cats that keep the rodent problem at bay. You may see a cat prowling around the park.

17. It isn’t all fun and games working at the happiest place on earth. Employees are subject to strict scrutiny from management. Pay is usually minimum wage, the days are long, and you usually get about one day off per week. So sad! I used to want to work at Disney, but when I found this out…no way! Be nice to the workers there when you go!

18. President Nixon and his family frequented Disney quite often

19. During the Holidays like Christmas, Disney offers Hot Chocolate and BIG Sugar Cookies for free to their guest.

20. When Disney opened, admission was just $3.50. It is now around/well over $99 per person. Yikes! Gotta love inflation.

21. The Disney Characters are usually housed at Epcot Center. They will sign an autograph for you too.

22. When at Epcot, you can go to each country and get a stamp. At the end, you can turn in your stamps and get a certificate saying you have been around the world.

23. At Epcot, there is a Food and Wine Festival where you can taste and sample all sorts of cuisines and wine from around the world…literally.

24. There is a fireworks show every night.

25. The most common place to take a picture at Disney is in front of Cinderella’s Castle. Marriage proposals happen a lot in this spot too.

What are some cool Disney facts that you know? Happy Traveling!

    • @okksummers I have been to Florida as part of our US holiday and we were taken to the Busch Gardens. I do not think even a month will be enough to see what lies there.

    • My niece and her kids just got back and she also went when she was younger. I would love to go to Disney.

    • I didn't know about the cats. That's very cool! I went once to Disney World when I was young and didn't find it all that interesting. But I totally missed out on seeing EPCOT, which was what I had wanted to go there for :(

    • Ooo these are interesting! I knew for a while that the employees have it rough, but I didn't think they'd be getting minimum wage to boot! :( Sad
