There are many times in the life of an individual when he or she is down and out due to sickness, injury and when has fallen ill. These are common situations faced by all of us at one point of time or another during our course of life. Each individual has a different reaction to it. Some find it too overwhelming or difficult to get up from the bed and would simply want to take rest and would want leave. While others would want to wait for sometime and see if there is some improvement in the condition and then decide what should be the further course of action which they need to take. While some would want to be there but would find physically impossible to do the same. They are mentally prepared but physically it is draining on them. While there are a few others who would go for the first or the second day of the illness and if it continues would like to rest and get well and return back to work latter.

Whatever be the situation seen above we find the end result is a full stop to the schedule which should be a regular affair especially for people who work in the private sector. As if they are not going to work there would be no proper replacement in their place and whenever they return they find that the whole in tray  on  their office desk if full with the out tray totally empty as not a file has moved in their absence which effectively means that no work took place in their absence. Then they should work harder to see everything comes back to normal. This creates fatigue in their mind as they feel they are paying the price for taking rest and getting well. Here are a few solutions as to how one can tide over the situation in those crucial days by motivating oneself.

If  one feels sick due to reasons like change in season, common cold or cough, flu etc. What one can do is take medicines and go to work and let someone important in the office know your situation. Then if they are understanding work will not be dumped on you. So you can clear some files which are on priority for the day and next two days. There are phases when we eat medicine we feel better sometimes for a few hours that is a golden opportunity to clear as many files and finish as much work as possible. Try to take fluids and medicines and eat light in office more times on the desk itself.

You can even use the lunch hour for work as it saves time for you. Once it is three or four in the evening fever generally tends to return in some cases. Tell yours it is only a matter of two to two and half hours and I will be through for the day and motivate yourself to run the last lap of the day. Once you go to your house eat something nourishing and take medicines if they are for sleep doze off and give yourself maximum rest and sleep. As sleep provides the best immunity and helps you to recover. Follow the same procedure you will be more confident as you have the experience of a day like this most of the time you will pull through and it turns into a habit and in a few days you will find you are fine and things are back to normal.

If you are injured due to some injury  in the house or due to some accident while on the road or anywhere else. First check whether your hands are find even if you have pain in other parts of the body which is not life threatening. Then if it is on the leg check if you are able to walk slowly or you can travel in a cab or with a friend to the office or someone from your family can also help you. Once you reach your place in the office take some minutes for yourself. Then start work at a slow pace and see how things are moving if your are able to accelerate the pace later without any problems then go for it and try to finish work in the first four to five hours. Do not simply move around and tire yourself as when you are injured you tire faster.

If you need to pass on some file request a colleague to bail you out as it is a humane thing and anyone sensible would do it. If possible have a  working lunch as it recharges and provides you with energy. Take foods which are energetic and easy to eat at the desk. Even customers will understand and would not mind you eating and working. As everyone is wanting to get the work done on time. Slow down in the last two hours before leaving for home after winding up. Try to take deep breaths during the course of work as your body needs fresh air. We generally forget to breath properly if we are too focused on work.

Sit on the chair and give some small exercises to the part which is injured and which needs some blood flow as sitting continuously for long hours clogs and clots the blood. Once you are in the house go for some massage or any therapy which the injured spot needs and eat a good dinner listen to some music lighten up by spending time with family. Seeing their happiness will make you pains vanish. Be careful when you sleep in the night and see that you do not end up spraining or straining the place where the injury is. Hot baths are good and will help in treating injuries and reducing pain. Hot patch is also good. You can also apply ointment or spray.

Tell yourself this routine will be there for a week if you are going to be well in 3 days. Then you will be more mentally prepared to take the challenge life has thrown at you. If the right hand is injured try signing with the left. Speak more and try to write less. If you work on a computer try to learn working with one hand it is possible as one gets used to it. It will help you in future situations too.

If you are ill and have high fever you will not feel like eating as you will be on medicines and it will be a prolonged affair  like a week or ten days. You will find it difficult to sit, you will have body aches, you will also have shivering and you may also have side effects of medicines like sleepiness etc. The solution for this is try to go to the office in the morning hours as generally you would have slept or would have at least taken rest on the bed. Mornings especially the first three hours will be fine.

Try to reach your office finish the most important works in the order of priority once it is afternoon try working and finishing and around three if you feel week or sapped or energy try to take energy drinks and work if it does not work ask permission from you superior and leave. If you would have informed him about the issue in the morning and would have told him you may feel if health troubles a understanding employer will allow you to go as you are sincere in you thought and action and he knows such people are responsible and will report the next day in the morning or at least they would see that work does not get stopped so they respect their attitude. Come home go to doctor rest relax a lot. Do not do any physical work. Do not think about office work as anyway you are going to be there because it a long drawn out affair.

This is a very difficult time and things will not be easy as the first two cases. A good doctor will be the tonic in this situation. He may help you recover faster by a few days or would see that you are able to pull through. But always remember one thing you are responsible for your actions and you have to own it and your family is dependent on you. So do not play with your life and health and at the same time do not spend time in your house and regret later when work piles up you end up clearing everything and feel overburdened about it.

Take a balanced and calculated decision do not overdo anything. Eat well you would not like to have food and would not have appetite but eat something as that is the only way to get well and sleep and medicines help too. While it is very good if we had a replacement in the office it does not happen that way especially in private sector. Hope you found this information useful. Did you face such a situation in life and were successful in overcoming it? If yes do share your experience in the comments. Wish you best of health and take good care of it.
