Last month, my doctor said I am pre-diabetic so I should take her prescription of a sugar-lowering drug. I felt so sad hearing about it.
I told her I do not want to take synthetic drugs, and my blood sugar went overboard, it became 128(fasting blood sugar) where in fact I always had normal levels in the past. I told her it was the unregulated diet I had since the blood test was done after the Christmas and New Year holidays, and after the fiesta in our place where there were so much food, and I became careless with eating. Another thing, though I am biking for some 20 minutes, I was always sluggish, lying down after eating, because the weather then was so cold, so conducive to sleeping.
She said I could not exercise at least twenty or thirty minutes a day, so I better follow her recommendation to drink that medicine to prevent the onset of diabetes.
What she said challenged me, and I said to myself: ”You are wrong, who told you I could not have a daily exercise?” I just told her I was always biking for some 20 minutes a day for a long time since I acquired my trike, a special bike which was assembled according to my needs since I do not know how to use a single bike with two wheels.
I just took her prescription and just bought 10 pieces of it instead of the 30 pieces which she wrote on it. I will just have a restricted diet and exercise for some 30 minutes every day.
My husband bought a glucose meter for blood sugar testing, and so every morning, I jot down my blood sugar data in a notebook. I also took note of what food I had eaten and what other diabetes remedies I had taken like eating lots of green leafy vegetables; brown rice, about half or 1/4 cup only; if no rice, I eat two slices of whole wheat bread; a small piece of chicken meat, and sometimes a banana (half-ripe). I do not use sugar in my coffee; I just add cinnamon powder or use stevia, a natural sweetener from stevia plant. Soda and other sweets are totally banned from my meals.
My record-keeping is aimed at meeting the challenge of the dietician who said I need to lose about 9 kilos in a month! It’s quite a big challenge, but at least I can make it; losing some kilos if not nine!
I also read that diabetes can be reversed if one lose some pounds and follow a healthy eating plan, along with exercise, or just be active every day.
This morning upon waking up, I tested my blood sugar, but it was only about seven hours of fasting It should be 8 to 10 hours. It registered 124 because I had eaten some salty foods yesterday!
So, I biked and walked for more than 30 minutes, then after testing, it became 110, or a difference of 14 points! I was so happy. It proves that exercise is very important in reversing diabetes!
It is good to have such monitoring system about my blood glucose and my diet plan, along with how many minutes of exercise I had daily. It inspires me more to go on with these healthy activities even if I returned to being non-diabetic again.

That is true , sweat out to release the toxic elements stored in the body. It is only through perspiration and urination that the blood sugar level be normalized and gradually body becomes healthy again.
Thanks Cely, yes, consistency in diet plans and exercise program can ease a lot of health problems like high sugar level. Another is we can be fit and strong,merely by walking for some 30 minutes everyday!
That's very nice. Yeah even if someone is non diabetic still biking, cycling, morning walks, exercise, doing gym's all help us a lot. And by controlling our sugar levels we can control many unwanted things which can hamper our life. Take care.
Thank you HARPREET SINGH for your reply. All it takes is some determination and discipline to be healthy. Eating the right kind and amount of food, along with exercise can mean a lot of change in one's health.
I totally agree to your word that at times taking medicine is not the 100% solution to diabetes. Being in the health and Lifestyle industry I can attest to that exercise plays such a major role in curbing and managing lifestyle diseases/conditions(high/low blood pressure, obesity, arthritis) just to name a few.
For those that already managing any lifestyle disease, ensure your choice of exercise as well suits the goals you a re supposed to meet. in addition, don't brush off the doctor's prescription as well, use it but also indulge in exercise.
So true, one can be healthy just changing the lifestyle; the kind of food, and having enough exercise. Of course I also consider taking some meds though right now I am "experimenting" first using some alternative remedies. For others who have the so-called insulin resistance, they can always seek the advice of their doctors.
It makes sense what you say. After all it was the poor diet and lack of exercise that caused the health problems we have. It seems logical we should be able to reverse the illness with a good diet and with proper exercise. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. Some people have success. Others don't. Everybody is different. If it works for you, do it! You really are what you eat and you really do feel better when you exercise.
I agree with you. It depends on the person, for me, it is effective because I was not so far from the borderline; at least the sugar level is still manageable. I was thankful I had the blood chemistry test for fasting blood sugar where I found out that I had gone above the normal level of 105 points.
My father was a diabetic. He had to take insulin shots. My husband was told he was in the pre-diabetic stage, so he changed his eating habits. It has helped.
It is good your husband had detected it early so he can make adjustments on his diet.
