DEPRESSION:THE LACK OF PROPER SELF-EXPRESSION

Suffering depression can be so depressing. Do you agree? It is extremely devastating and I mean it. It will hinder us from our daily activities. It will hinder us from our social advancements. It will hinder us from our own happiness.

As I read the meaning of depression in the dictionary, it says that depression is the lack of proper self-expression. This can also be a psychiatric disorder.

SYMPTOMS OR SIGNS THAT A PERSON IS SUFFERING DEPRESSION

  • Intense sadness. A depressed person has a great feeling of unhappiness.
  • Persistent feelings of hopelessness. If a person was hopeless and doesn’t have the guts or courage to try things up, it indicates that he or she is depressed.
  • A person is not contented with things.
  • Poor concentration. A depressed person can’t get his focus.
  • Lack of energy.
  • Inability to sleep.
  • Sometimes, depressed individuals have the tendency of committing suicide. There are also some cases where he or she doesn’t care if he or she may be hit by a car.

HOW CAN WE LESSEN DEPRESSION?

  1. In some instances, depressed people lessen their depression by eating diet supplements that will enhance the level of amino acid in the body that produces serotonin, which affects our emotional state.
  2. Some also find relief by eating their favorite foods.
  3. It is also proven that eating food that is rich in carbohydrates cure the feeling of depression. It is said that carbohydrates are anti-depression supplement because it can repair the unevenness in the portion of the fatty acid, which is a big factor in having a depression.
  4. Drinking tea or coffee can decrease the effect of depression. Enough caffeine lowers the symptoms of depression.

In order to avoid depression, an individual may take food nutrients and vitamins like iodine, amino acid, vitamin C, Vitamin B, Vitamin B12, and Calcium

A person who constantly suffering depression should not smoke too much cigarette, taking over dosage of drugs, and drinking alcoholic beverages.

Proper diet and wise choice of food are very effective in avoiding depression.

    • There are so many factors why people suffer from depression.
      I do believe that lack of sleep can lead to depression.
      A depressed person cannot work or function well for not having enough sleep.
      Personal issues or concerns will be a mind-blowing for them.

      For serious cases, they need to consult an expert.
      Sometimes these people kept their inner sentiments.
      They need an intervention for the real cause of depression.

      • I agree. Suffering such thing is a serious matter. Expert's advice is very important. Accordingly, depression is the main cause of suicide cases that is why it should not be neglected.

    • More than 10 to 15 percent of the population in the world suffers from this silent killer. All of us would have had depression at one point of our live or another. But majority of people are able to get over as the symptoms last only for a few days and the episodes are far less. In the case of the percentage of the population mentioned above, they are unable to get over the feeling of being down and the same thing drags on for months at one stretch and this is when medical intervention becomes necessary.

      Many do not know what they are suffering from as they have not had such an issue at any point of life till the time it strikes. It is basically a collection of problems piling up on the individual over a period of time which the person is trying to solve but in the end gives up as it is very overwhelming. Problems like medicines, not visiting the doctor on time, worries, anxieties, tensions, lack of sleep, being overburdened with work, not having time for oneself, being unable to spend time with family, family tensions, failure, emotional reasons are some of the problems which pile up and cause this problem which is difficult to overcome if it becomes serious. If it is in the in the initial stages chances of recovery are better.

        Although depression may occur only one time during your life, usually people have multiple episodes of depression. During these episodes, symptoms occur most of the day, nearly every day.

        As Shavkat said, If you feel depressed, make an appointment to see your doctor as soon as you can. If you're reluctant to seek treatment, talk to a friend or loved one, a health care professional, a faith leader, or someone else you trust.
