I came across a site where homemade wines were being discussed. The person whose blog it is talked about how she visits fruit and vegetable market and picks up over ripe fruits that are discarded and even some vegetable peels and uses this stuff to make great wines.
Here, in this part of the world cashew apple is a common fruit. While there is great demand for cashew nuts cashew apples are just discarded or fed to pigs. Taking a tip from what I had read and from what I had heard from another person who had tried making wine from cashew apple wine I took the plunge.
My husband had picked up a cashew apple from a wayside tree. I planted the seed and it grew into a beautiful tree. It gave us joy for twenty odd years.
The tree started yielding in about 3 years’ time. The fruits used to drop on the ground which we would pick up and collect The cashew nuts would be sold.
The cashew apple which has a lot of juice could be eaten as a fruit. It does have some astringency which can affect the throat. I could never eat it but prepar a juice after steaming the fruit when the astringency disappears.
Cashew apple wine tastes as good as any other wine. It has great health properties. Making cashew apple wine is very easy. You need to extract the juice, add some crushed wheat, and a little yeast, add sugar and enough water. Keep stirring the stuff for a few days – 22 days to be exact. Drain out the liquid and bottle it. It is ready for consumption after one month. It gets a beautiful red colour probably because of its rich iron content.
Cashew apples grow freely in this part of the country. There are cashew nut factories that process cashew nuts. There is a great demand for cashew nuts globally.

I haven't tried this kind of wine and heard about it. I guess it is better to try such fruit wine. In my city, the most common fruit wine is made of strawberry.
Every single fruit is capable of producing wine. The proportion of ingredients may change.
