“Dahi Vada” a typical Indian snack

Dahi vada

Every  State in India boasts of their own cuisine. Thanks to the Net, however, most have access to it and there seems to be  a conglomeration of  dishes in every kitchen all over India and my kitchen is no exception.  ‘Dahi vada’ is supposed to be a North Indian dish but it is introduced in every kitichen in India. It has taken a special place in my kitchen as well  as it is not only tasty but the ingredients used are nourishing and it is easy to make.

Indian cuisine which is known for its spicy taste,  has created waves in foreign countries as well. I had friend from the UK who mentioned the names of few dishes that she would want to taste and surprisingly she did not mind chillies being added. In fact she had more chillies than I could tolerate. No more bland food for foreigners.

There is yet another person I know who tries out every kind of ‘Dosa’ in his English kitchen. I had written a post somewhere and he made his appearance and corrected me here and there. How right he was.

I prepared ‘Dahi vada’ this morning a snack that could also be taken at breakfast time. This is easy to make at the same it is nutritious and tasty.

Ingredients of Dahi vada:

It has curds (yoghurt), black gram dhal  ground to a fine paste (with salt to taste)  after it is soaked for 12 hours in water. The water needs to be drained out.

Method of cooking Dahi vada

The paste is formed into balls and deep fried and cooled. In a dish the curd is beaten up  to which sugar and salt is added. The cooled ‘wadas’ are soaked in the curds and garnished with red chilli powder and chopped coriander leaves. Some prefer soaking the wadas in cold water, squeezing them out  and then placing them in curds.

    • That's a unique snack. Unfortunately, I haven't seen in actual and taste it. I wish there is an Indian resto here in my city. I love to try this.
