Cycling: An Amateur’s Point Of View

Cycling is a sport, where all you need is a specialized bike and the open (concrete) road. Cycling has many disciplines: mountains, hills, flat and cobblestones.  This blog will mainly talk about cycling on flat roads and in the mountains from an amateur’s point of view.

Riding on flat road is the easiest form, but it still has its difficulties. The first difficulty is wind resistance especially if you want to ride at a normal speed (30-34km/hour). The second difficulty is boredom, after cycling for about an hour- an hour and half on flat roads, it tends to get boring. The best way to solve these problems is by cycling in a group. By cycling in a group there are always people who can partially avoid the wind by riding behind a fellow cyclist. And of course by cycling in group you can participate in small talk which is a good way to deal with boredom. If you are cycling alone and you are less concerned with personal safety. Then you can always listen to music to deal with boredom.

Climbing mountains with a bike is the most difficult and challenging part of cycling. Most people can agree that climbing not only is a fight against gravity but it also is a mental fight. From personal experience I know that while climbing a mountain you will question your motivation and possibly even your sanity, hence the mental fight. But once you get to the top you will know it was all worth it. The most amateurs will probably experience a feeling of self-satisfaction and the view is usually amazing, due note it might get chilly since your quite high from sea level. Of course after climbing a mountain you will need to descend. Descending can be quite exciting because a bike is easier to control than a car and you can achieve speed up to 70-80 km/hour. Of course you will need to keep in mind danger elements like traffic and bad road conditions. But if you’re a cyclist, mountain climbing is definitely something worth experiencing.

    • I cycle hard every day not only because of health reasons, I also cycle because it keeps the air of my city clean.

    • I have been using the BMX bike while I was teaching in a Barangay elementary school every day. And I did it for 7 years. It felt so refreshing and invigorating to ride on a bike every day. It seems to be hard when it is raining. Even then I never minded it for I have a raincoat to protect my body from getting wet. It is a form of physical exercise. It is fun.

What I have to express about your challenging experience on biking is the danger that you may be facing while climbing the mountain. Though it is all worth of it once you get into the top of the mountain but the fear, the nervous, and the stupor of thought you may have while struggling to go up. You have not mentioned the danger of it or the possible point which it is prone to accident. And also the danger of biking a lone.

    • Yes cycling is a tough job as in Pakistan and India but not in China where everyone likes to cycle but cycling on the mountains are very difficult than the cycling on the road. Cycling leaves a good effect on our health and all human body organs.
