It was my dream to own a Cuckoo Clock but little did I know that I would one day get the opportunity to buy one straight from the manufacturers themselves in the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) Germany. The only disadvantage of owning a cuckoo clock is that one has to pull those chains every single day to get the cuckoo clock working
As a part of our Europe tour we were taken to Germany and specially to this place where they were manufacturing Cuckoo clocks The house itself was a Cuckoo clock and we were taken there around the time when the clock struck twelve when all around there was the chiming of the cuckoo clock heard with the dolls dancing on the top of the house.
I picked up a medium sized with a raw wood finish.Most cuckoo clocks have a chocolate or brown finish. It is over 10 years now and I still have the clock. Slowly it started misbehaving having to send it to the repairers who just took money but did nothing to rectify the situation. It works but it chimes at wrong hours. It even chimes thirteen times sometimes. I have now muted the sound but it shows the correct time. In winter it goes a bit fast and when than happens I have to lengthen the pendulum a bit to get the timing right. In other words this cuckoo clock is quite fussy and wants me to be in its life every single day and more when it misbehaves. At the moment it is winter here and I know it will need special attention.
It reminds me every single day of my holiday in Germany and specially that part of Germany where I could hear the cuckoo clock the loudest with the dancing dolls adding to the grandeur of the clock.
Hats off to the travel agent who remembered to take us to that spot at the time when the clock struck twelve enabling us to listen to the beautiful chimes of the cuckoo clock with the dancing dolls.
