There are so many symptoms that are common. and unless a thorough examination is done it is difficult to know what causes those symptoms. When demand is many times over supply, doctors rush and prescribe medicines which at times could prove fatal or leave a lifelong disability.
The worse is when doctors do not guide the patients about the side effects of certain drugs. Nor will they question the patient thoroughly as the drug prescribed could go against what a patient is already taking for some other ailment although it could be the same doctor that could have prescribed it in the first place. There are also cases where patients are allergic to certain drugs.
Then there are those hopeless cases where doctors fully know there is no cure and yet they will prescribe medicines or even recommend surgery leading to torture to both patients and caregivers not to speak of huge amounts that would be spent getting no results.
There was a case here recently when someone met with a near fatal accident. One side of his head was completely smashed and yet doctors gave hope and the caregivers spent lakhs emptying their coffers. Caregivers have no alternative when doctors tell them that the patient can recover.
There are ways in which this bad handling can be reduced if not totally eradicated.
– Patients should always go for second opinion
– Patients are sometimes tried as guinea pigs and new drugs are tested on them. This should be told to the patient and done with consent
-Patients should have holistic approach to healthy living and not just depend on allopathy or any one discipline
-With the Internet at our disposal much of the doubts could be cleared specially with regard to side effects of drugs. There are accredited sites that give correct information and the precautions that one needs to take while taking drugs which many doctors fail to do.
