It’s cookie time! M&S’ Mexican Chipotle Chili and Ecuadorian Dark Chocolate

Snacking is a must in our household. I don’t diet and it is probably because my son still breastfeeds that’s why he ends up getting all the calories I take. Some may say I am lucky because I can eat everything I want. But to be honest, there are days when I don’t feel that lucky. I suddenly lost all my post-birth weight (actually ended up a few kilos lighter) and if only people sees the amount of food I eat regularly (or force myself to eat), then they can stop nagging me to eat more!

Even if I eat such a huge meal for lunch, I typically feel a bit hungry around 2 or 3 in the afternoon. In most days, I satisfy my hunger by eating a piece of toasted bread with peanut butter or jam but sometimes, I don’t want to eat the same healthy thing over and over again!
M&S is a brand I love to visit to check their snack options. I love the variety of cookies and biscuits – especially if they are on sale! I recently blogged about an M&S cookie variant with Pistachios and Almonds, which only lasted us a week! That’s why, we opened another packet and this time, it is a chocolate cookie called Mexican Chipotle Chili and Ecuadorian Dark Chocolate.

I am not a fan of rich chocolatey snacks and desserts – it is more of my husband’s taste. Even so, I try to strike a balance when it comes to buying for the family. That’s why even if this flavor is not something I’d personally buy for myself, I decided to go for it since I know this is something my husband can appreciate.
Before my husband ate everything, I managed to grab about two pieces of cookies (yeah, only managed to eat two pieces!). Since I am biased with rich chocolate cookies, I’d say that this is definitely not something I will buy regularly. But for the chocolate lovers out there, this is impeccable! The deep and dark flavor coming from the Ecuadorian dark chocolate is really smooth and rich. Each mouthful is like biting into a dark chocolate bar. It is definitely for somebody with a strong sweet tooth!
The hint of chili is not overpowering either. I actually thought it is a great balance to introduce a different “taste” to the densely rich dark chocolate flavor. It actually reminded me of a hot chocolate variety I enjoy drinking in Melbourne. There were two cafes where I used to buy from called Max Brenner and San Churro. Both had their own version of a hot chocolate drink with a hint of chili and eating this cookie definitely brought me back down to memory lane when I used to live in Melbourne!
Overall, I personally find this as an OK cookie variant – but that’s just being me not liking chocolate-based things, to begin with. My husband will tell you otherwise, though. I think the way he almost finished the entire packet by himself is a true “review” that this is a fantastic snack option!

      • Yeah it is. There is just a slight hint of chili with every bite and that's a nice (at least to me) change with the overly rich chocolate flavor from the dark chocolate. It is good but not for somebody like me who is not a fan of chocolate-based treats.
