Hello Everyone!
You might have heard the age old saying – “Money never grows on trees.”
Logically speaking, it is only half true. Yes, directly you do not see money on trees – instead you see fruits, leaves, flowers instead. However, if you use this and sell in the open market, you will get money. You will also get money by selling wood. Money does grow on trees but indirectly.
Anyways, the proverb is only meant to stop unnecessary spending of money. Leave it.
How about creating a money generating tree and that too via blogging? You might laugh thinking this idea to be ridiculous but this post is created to end confusion.
You want to run a profitable blog and you want to do it with ease. Sorry, but you are overly optimistic. You need to have patience. Be consistent and try to market yourself very well.
All those troubles do not make the process impossible. Please see the table below.
Website | Approx Yearly Revenue |
Huffington Post | 145 million USD |
Lifehacker.com | 30 million USD |
Shoutmeloud | 1 million USD |
Patheos | 4 million USD |
Smartblogger | 2 million USD |
Some websites with revenue generation approximations are mentioned. If they can do it, so can you. But again, none of these were made in a day. It was years of practice and too much pain involved in building these.
Please read the very beginning. I talked about money making tree. Similar is the concept over here.
You can sell tree’s wood. A wood is directly associated with the tree and forms the most important part of it. Selling wood is analogous to selling ad spaces in your website for that is directly and clearly visible on your tree.
You can sell tree’s flowers. The best thing is: you don’t have to sell them. Just show them. Their fragrance will sell them. This is indirect sales and known as affiliate marketing with reference to website blog. You are selling products which you did not produce. You don’t have to sell these products. Their worth will sell them. Just show the worth.
You can become a grocer and sell the fruits. It is the seed of the fruit which created the tree in most of the cases. With reference to the blog, sell your own stuff because that worked as the seed of your website. You can sell stuff like ebooks, webinars. You can also offer services (coaching / problem solving) which make users visit your websites and get attracted to the system.
You can also join a nursery and grow the tree. You will be paid for that. With reference to website, this involves seeking donations. Make no mistake: this is the primary revenue model which keeps Mozilla (the mother of Firefox browser and Thunderbird email client) up and running. Don’t ignore this as a stupid idea – who knows it works for you.
With analogy to getting paid from trees, we learnt to monetize blogs. Just to add, there are other ways too but if you ask me, you do not have to delve deeper there. If you understood these, you are done. In future posts, I shall discuss what to do.

I wonder how many full time staff are in Huffington Post.
I like Huffington Post, and I think I ever used it as a place to get backlinks before.
Sorry @scheng1
I dont have answer to your question. I don't think that's even relevant. They are a highly successful website and this does matter. You might consider searching online how many full time workers exist there.
This is an interesting analogy..You have explained blog monetization in a unique and interesting way.
@swalia
Thanks that you liked it. You can share it so that others can know about it.
Also, this is actually a beginner's guide only and therefore, complex stuff has been left out. More sequels are planned in future. I don't know how long will it go.
The presentation is very good. The comparison you have used. It is done in a practical way and it does really happen. For us as a struggling writer online, blogger, it is too far-fetched to be considered as rich as you have mentioned those sites. Though, it takes a lot of hard work, a lot of efforts, time, skills, and everything. Once you are only a sole proprietor, the chance of becoming a rich is too slim. But if you are consistent, who knows you are competing with those prolific sites.
You want to make money, right? Of course you do. Everyone wants – and needs -to make money. So you started a blog since you’ve heard it’s an easy way to make cash, but you’re not quite sure how to actually make money doing it. Or maybe you already have a blog and you’re exploring ways to monetize it.
No matter which group you’re in, making money with a blog – whether it’s a hobby blog or a business blog –is possible. It’s not a get rich quick ordeal, but if you do it right, you could make enough to support your family and more. Let’s dive in and see how you can make a profit with your blog
One of the most common ways bloggers make money is through placing ads on their site. There are two popular types of ads:
CPC/PPC Ads: Cost per click (also called pay per click) ads are usually banners that you place in your content or sidebar. Each time a reader clicks on the ad, you are paid for that click.
CPM Ads: CPM Ads, or “cost per 1,000 impressions,” are ads that pay you a fixed amount of money based on how many people view your ad.
Perhaps the most popular network for placing these types of ads is Google AdSense. With this program,
you do not need to be in direct contact with advertisers; you simply place the banner on your site, Google chooses ads relevant to your content, and your viewers click on the ads. There are countless similar programs available if you find that AdSense doesn’t work for you, such as Chitika, Infolinks, and Media.net.
