Cones Stuffed in Jackfruit Leaves – Yet Another Christms Goody

This is a food item that is prepared during Christmas time. Atleast my mother added that in the list of several other food items she prepared specially on this festive occasion.

Stuffed cones are steamed and here is the recipe

1. Pick a few leaves from the jackfruit tree and shape them in a corn form. Normally a piece of broom stick is used to place them in position.
2. Soak 2 cups of boiled rice over night and grind it to a paste
3. For the filling mix scraped coconut, raisins, cashew nut pieces, jiggery and cardamom powdere
4. Line the cones with the rice paste and put in the filling. Seal the top of the cone with rice paste.
5. Steam the cones for about half an hour. Cool them. The cone can now be neatly removed from the leaf and enjoyed. 2 cups of rice paste will produce about 8 cones. The quantity can be increased or decreased according to one’s need.
One should have a jackfruit tree to be able to get the leaves as they are not sold in the market. We have four trees and enough to load a country.
Unfortunately this is the fast food world and you will not find youngsters taking the trouble to make such food items. In other words most Christmas food items are slowly dying You will find them in shops but not in any household.
Making Christmas sweets at home brings in the Christmas mood – one of the several features that are required. No amount purchasing is going to bring home this feeling. Today I see only form and no substance.

There is more to making sweets at home than just bringing in the Christmas mood. The family gets together to make these sweets which collection of members otherwise is not seen these days. A concerted effort is therefore required to bring the family together.
