Gerbera is a beautiful flower and given the right care it will not disappoint you.
Gerbera blooms at its will and pleasure. It hides itself and when one gives up hopes a bud emerges slowly from beneath taking days to attain its full bloom. Gerbera lasts for several days and just one flower is enough to attract any one’s attention. I have had several colours but now I have only one. They come in yellow, white, pink, orange and red. I have not seen any other colours. Here is a link on Gerbera

It seems the orange colour is easy to grow as that is one colour that has stayed with me year after year without re-potting it. .
Gerbera gives out several suckers if they are planted in rich soil.It needs a soil that has proper drainage. Gerbera needs re-potting once a year and the suckers planted separately. Gerbera needs gentle care if one has hopes to see it every year .Given proper attention just with one plant one can have several by planting those suckers that the plant gives out. Gerbera thrive better in a cool climate and that is why I see them blooming here only around November to January.
The only problem with Gerbera is that it cannot stand on its own. A flower that has fully bloomed needs a prop and that spoils its look. I cut them and make flower arrangements. They are perfect for flower arrangements. There they get the support of ferns and other stuff.
The image here is a flower arrangement that I created using just two gerberas that grew in my garden.
Some grow gerbera for commercial purposes. They are sold at exorbitant rates. With few owning gardens these days flowers are bought than grown.
I have not given up adding colours in my garden and am on the lookout for plants that are normally sold by vendors that keep visiting houses.
