Our government is working hard to make things easy for general public.
A few days ago there was a crackdown against encroachments by shopkeepers. They were asked to vacate the places they had encroached illegally. The result was that the roadside looked empty.
Now there were no shopkeepers with their things scattered on the roadside. There were no vendors and no carts.
When I came out for a walk, I was really surprised to see the change.
I could easily walk on my way to a neighboring park.
Other pedestrians also looked delighted as they found no traffic jam. It was a pleasant change.
A few days passed by very peacefully.
But after about a week or so I realized that once again the shopkeepers had put various articles of daily use on the roadside gradually.
Perhaps they wanted to see if there was any reaction from the department concerned. Finding that there was none, they took courage and within a few days the whole scene changed again.
It is really a pity that our citizens do not feel their responsibility. They are not the least bothered about the problems of the pedestrians.
The government should take stern action against these shopkeepers.
It is not sufficient to have a crackdown once a year.
There should be regular crackdowns and vigilant eye should be kept on those who don’t abide by the laws of the country. Use of force may be a better idea in this connection. Only in this way our government can solve this problem.
In foreign countries there are strict rules in this connection. People are conscious enough. Nobody thinks of such encroachments or violating any law of the country.
It is a pity that even after a long time since our independence, the problem is still there. It is quite pertinent that people are educated in this regard properly. The committees of traders should ensure that none of the shopkeepers indulge in any type of encroachment.
Government alone can do nothing if the citizens are apathetic to the problem. The committees should be made responsible and answerable in this matter.
Another point I want to bring to the limelight is that after having elected our government for four or five years, we should allow it to work. In case of any complaints we should go to the courts instead of unmanageable sit-ins and protests that disrupt the whole country, so that the government can work properly.
