The world is changing and so too the widening of the Christmas season which now seems to start right from the beginning of December. This is evident from the carols on hear at every nook and corner starting December 1. There is festivity everywhere be it malls, and houses. It is a happy mood which is contagious in that when one house starts to play those carols other houses follow – a din reverberating the atmosphere which is most welcome.
I have loads of music relating to Christmas. The good old cassettes have now taken a back seat with CDs making their presence. The old decks are nowhere to be seen. Most households now have DVDs.
When it comes to carols there is truth in the saying old is gold. Be it Natking Cole, Jim Reeves or Nana mouskouri their evergreen renditions are here to stay.
There are attempts made to remix their creations which perhaps many like by the demand they have. The music stores are loaded with them. Whatever be it the carols take center stage be they mixed or in original form.
Most of these carols have background music that have a beat that tempts everyone to take to the floor and dance to their heart’s content. These days one does not need a partner to shake a leg and thatis an advantage.
There are a few numbers that are signatures of certain singers like the ‘Chestnuts Roasting on Open Fire’ by Nat King Cole
and C-H-R-I-S-T-M-A-S by jim Reeves
Ave Maria is not a carol but one hears Nan mouskouri durng this time with her melodious voice rendering it to those who have a ear for classical singing.
While listening to one singer could be a choice nothing like having a CD that has a collection of all signature songs by each of these singers.
What is odd is listening to carols at other times is just not done.
Merry Christmas to all those who will view this blog and a Happy New Year.

Oohh The joy of christmas, who doesn't like the sound of carols. If anything carols are what get me into the Christmas mood when I hear a song in radio that imemediately stirs me up to start looking for my old cassettes that played Christmas carols because those songs from way back are the original thing so it brings out Christmas in a more natural way than what we hear nowadays. Its true that nowadays Christmas stats early some people even start it as early as the last week of November in preparation for the festive season. The only bad thing about this early celebration is true fact that when the actual day comes people are bored already so the day usually just comes and passed by nothing much is done.
December 1 is the day when I start playing and yes by the time Dec 25 arrives they lose their charm (lol)
Back in the old days, the spirit of Christmas is so being practiced. The children are spread out in their respective areas and do caroling in the neighborhood. The simple thoughts of what to do with the money are to organize their own Christmas party. The independent thinking is so simple with a purpose.
Nowadays, the traditional practices during the Christmas season had changed. Some children cannot even do this outdoor activity. They are more attached to modern gadgets. The exchange of gifts within the family circle had changed and money is better off as a gift.
The family, friends, and relatives started to think differently. The togetherness is not done anymore. They prefer to celebrate separately and forget the essence of a close-knit relationship. There are so many things to ponder but it was lost for being busy to live and survive in this world. The simplicity of being with close people cannot be attained so easily. It takes a lot of effort and energy to achieve such aspiration.
What you have said here is universal. That change of scene is felt everywhere. But I keep to the old traditions and quite enjoy being that way.
